If you are on a military base you prob can find one at the youth center or someone that can point you the right way.

Thank your Dad for serving.

Let me begin by thanking you and your father for your service. I thank you because you sacrifice a lot as well. It can be tough not having your father around for such a long period of time, but stay busy, communicate with him as often as possible (don't be worried if he doesn't call for a little while; they get busy over there), and don't allow yourself to get too down about it. The worst part about my deployment was not the fact that I was going or the fact of being away from my family, friends, and fiance - it was knowing how hard it was on them. Be strong for his sake.

If he has not gone yet, have him contact his chain of command. Most units have a family support group. You would be much better off going to the unit support group rather than some general one. Even if he is gone, there should be someone left in the rear unit that you can talk to.

If that doesn't work, try this web site. Some members of my family used it when I deployed.

A support group almost any soldier currently serving either Reserves or Active. I am a US Army Reserve soldier and we have a Family support/ Readiness program right with the Unit. Try the military Units around you and if you are closer to a base try that. Also if he is deployed and you are close to a base you can still get on if you can prove he is currently serving.

Your dad's unit will have a family support unit stateside. You will be provided with a phone number to call. The family contact person should contact you once a month to address your concerns and questions. You can call them anytime you have a question, within reason. Most family support unit's are made up of wives of Sargent's & officers. They will advise you of troop movement. They also will let you know when he mid deployment leaves are scheduled and when the unit is coming home.

Your dad's unit should have a Family Support Group. There should be someone from your Dad's unit at the main unit in the States or someone from your Dad's higher headquarters that could provide assistance.

If you live on or near an active duty military installation, please see Army Community Service or Morale,Welfare,Recreation (MWR) for assistance. You might also contact the post Chaplain who could offer assistance.

If you are not near a military base you can look in the phone book for the local VFW or American Legion post. If you call them, they should be able to help you locate a support group. If you are in a city with a major airport, look in the phone book for the USO, while this is not their job, they may be able to suggest who you might contact. Bless you and thank your dad for his service.

Well, My mom almost went over to Iraq and is still considering it...
Im only 17, so I would of course not like it... But she wanted to do it for the money, she would only be there for 6 months and make almost 40K... and she said that if she would have stayed for 2 yrs.. that she would have made enough to pay off our 80 thousand on our house, and then have about a 100K left...
I told her that if she really wanted to do it, that she could, I wouldnt mind, I have a few family members here that I can live with, and keep me company...
And Ill be in college in a few years anyways, so It wouldnt be as bad...

I know how nice it is to have someone to talk to, to vent out on, and to just chat about random things just to pass time... So if ya want someone to talk to, im here... just email me or something... and ill give you my aim sn...

I am glad that your father is one of the few people in America that will go over there. I know I even thought about doing it for a little while... to help out...
You should be proud of him...

God bless and keep your Dad safe and give him a big "Thank You' from an old Marine.

Constact the local VA or Veterans Group in your area and they will gladly assist you in locating a support group.

Try the local Red Cross Chapter. They should know where to direct you to a support group.

Start with the family support center on base.
