I sing every day, and I have an annoying problem. When I'm in the middle of singing a phrase, I yawn. Is this from lack of oxygen and not breathing enough while I sing, or what?

And yes, I do get plenty of sleep.

(please no stupid answers. I really need this problem fixed, and soon.)

It is not Oxygen but, Carbon Dioxide....you are almost having a panic attack.... You need to be trained better for your singing...You are taking in enough oxygen yet not letting enough carbon dioxide out of your system...If you need to determine this most people use a paper bag to increase carbon levels.....I have been singing for years and found as I got older that I had this problem......Believe me!!!...This is what it is!!!!

Good luck Sweetie....Just need some corrective training and your voice will SOAR!!!!!

Before I went to a vocal coach I used to have this problem too! it is from incorrect breathing. When we yawn it is caused by a lack of oxygen in our blood. You aren't breathing correctly or often enough during your singing. When you sing there is a never a time that you should hold your breathe or not be breathing outward. Try to breathe nice and deep into your stomach like when you lay down on your back and then remember to do this singing. Don't be discouraged, it took my old singing teacher an entire year to learn proper breathing technique and it took me about six or seven months. Not because it's hard but because old habits die hard and you have to relearn where to sing from if you start singing incorrectly. Concrentrate on not letting the chest and shoulders rise when you breathe and breathe often, then exhale so the air makes the sound leaving your body, not you making the sound in your throat. Good Luck!

I'm no expert, but I do know that yawning is the body's way of getting more needed oxygen. Breathing more deeply, and making sure that you are breathing correctly, while you sing may well help. But I'd go a step further and suggest that you do some deep breathing exercises throughout the day so that you eventually increase the air capacity of your lungs. You might even consider some Yoga classes.

It has nothing to do with a lack of anything. You are lifting your soft palate so high that it makes you want to yawn. If you relax the back of your throat, and you'll have to work on it, while you sing, then you'll be able to resist the need to yawn. You can try by moving your head side to side in a relaxed way, while you sing (this is just an excercise while you are practicing.) Honestly, you just need to relax your throat. Lots of people hold tension there and in the neck.

If yawning is from low oxygen, then I guess some breathing exercises before beginning would help.

sleep more, drink coffee, and take a few deep breaths hold them in for a bit 5-10 seconds and then let them out slowly. it works most of the time.

You should take deeper breathes between verses. Or you know when you usually stop to take breathes... maybe take nreathes more often.
