This great article, "How Not To Convert An Atheist" http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/hownot.html from Sinister Cat got me thinking....

What do Christians find most irritating when being talked to about their faith? I would assume #1 would be "We're not all bible literalists!!!"

What bugs you? (And check the link - it's a great article)

It's interesting when people criticize my beliefs and, within two minutes, reveal straightaway that they don't understand what I believe at all. Also, the sweeping generalizations can be annoying. For instance, somebody might end up looking pretty silly if they approach somebody and start raving that all Christians are Fundamentalists, only to find out that they've been talking to a Unitarian, who likely shares very little in common theologically with Fundamentalists in any way. Realize that there are many different types of Christians, and they don't all believe the same thing. Many Christian churches don't proselytize, so drop the rants about all Christians knocking on doors. And as you've already pointed out, not all Christians are Biblical literalists (or creationists). Many Christians are staunchly in favor of freedom of speech, so saying that all Christians are pro-censorship is extremely inaccurate, as is suggesting that Christians can't support the separation of church and state (because many of them do).

I agree, great article.

I do not find many things irritating. I know my stuff and I am trying to understand other views than mine. We do not have to agree. I think it is great if people are able to have a conversation. God can change heart, when the heart is seeking the truth. I am still seeking deeper truth. And I believe that is possible when we are interested in what other people has to say.

Hmm, the author of that made some very good points. Mind you, I wouldn't be converted anyway, but still... I wish more Christians would read that. They'd be viewed, and treated, with less hostility.

what bugs me the most is when I hear anyone tell me that I am going to hell for being a catholic.

well, if that is the way you try to convert someone to your religion... it isn't the best approach.

well yeah, it annoys me when people try to denounce my faith by something I don't believe....

Like if they throw out some whack theory, or some false scripture, or some of their loose interpretations that they made about scripture they never read.

But what really annoys me is when people who do not believe judge me for believing, then yell at me when I judge them for not believing....they throw out the "didn't God tell you not to judge?" and I say to them the "He also said do unto others as you wish them to do unto you" thing....

yeah....

We need to get this straight-we do not convert anyone. That is the work of the Holy spirit who convicts man he is sinful and Jesus shed His blood on Calvary to pay for man's sin so man wouldn't have to. But we still choose to respond or ignore the moving of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

What bugs us is the fact that millions and millions are being lead astray from God, and have turned to paganism and idolatry. Hope that helps. www.gotquestions.org for the way to salvation--faith in Jesus Christ
