To much missing info:

Was something wrong with your PC?
What did you download and from who? What Date and Time?
Is there anything wrong now?
Do you have some kind of Virus/Spyware software like Norton or Mcafee? If yes run a scan.
Have you tried a restore?

Find someone that understands this:

System Restore is a great feature in Windows XP. You can use System Restore to remove any troublesome system changes made since the last time you created a Restore Point.

But to start System Restore normally, you need to be able to start Windows XP normally or at least in Safe Mode. But what if the problem is so bad that Windows does not even start in the Safe Mode. Well, there is a way to launch System Restore from a command prompt. Here is how to do it.

Restart your computer and press [F8] during the initial startup.
When you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select the Safe Mode with a Command Prompt option.
Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.
Type the following command at a command prompt:
C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Don't do anything you are not comfortable with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This "scanner" itself may be spyware, trying to get you to buy something that you don't need.

What is the name of this "Scanner", if it asks you to buy a program so you can fix the "errors", then it might be spyware itself.

If it is called WinFixer, WinAntiVirus, WinAntiVirusPro, ErrorSafe, SystemDoctor, WinAntiSpyware, ErrorProtector, SystemDoctor, SysProtect, PrivacyProtector, DriveCleaner, ECsecured or something similar then it is definately spyware.

If you think that you have errors, use Error-Checking by going to My Computer and right click on your "C:\ local drive" select the "Tools" tab and click the Error Check button. Also download, update and run: AVG Free, Spy-bot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Windows Defender. Re-run them in "Safe Mode" by repeatedly pressing the "F8" key BEFORE Windows XP logo shows up on your screen and then select "Safe Mode without networking" by using the arrow keys to highlight that choice and then hit the return key.
