God did not create Satan as Satan.. He created him as a pure and beautiful being, as one of His highest angels. Satan really created himself when he rose up against God, trying to become Him, and was cast out of heaven. God created the tree in the garden because He wanted us to choose him. If you don't choose love, it isn't love. I know sometimes it seems unfair and hard, but it's something we can't understand in this life. That's where faith comes in. You choose to love and believe even though you don't really understand why God does things the way He does sometimes. Someday we'll know.

First of all, God didn't create Satan, He created Lucifer, the very first archangel and all angels have free-will just like humans do. Lucifer choose to do what he did and was punished for it. God told Adam the rules of the land and Adam told Eve. Satan hated God and mankind so much that he made it his mission to destroy all human souls and damn them to hell just so they would not go to Heaven. So Satan tempted Eve with lies. She fell into his web of lies and sinned. Then Eve tempted Adam (who didn't protect her from the temptations out there) and she used her female seduction to tempt Adam to follow her and he went along with her, so he then sinned as well. God punished them both and cursed their offspring as well as Satan some more.
Your last sentence is very wrong because if it wasn't Eve nor Adam that had first sinned, it would have been one of their children or one of their grandchildren that would have made the first sin. Humans are made in the likeness of God and are born naturally good and want to be good and happy. They have to learn to be bad. The only way they learn this is from others around them. So at some point there would have been an original sin and Satan would still be trying to get our souls in his net. He and his demons never rest. Mankind would never have been truly happy forever but they could have been blessed more if they would have been more obedient and teach their generations about the true God and their generations would listen to their elders.

Some basics. Satan is Hebrew for enemy. God created Lucifer, which means light bearer, who became the Satan.
You might want to reread the passage in the bible and note that God created two trees. The tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. You might also note that as the Bible starts with a tree, it ends in the last chapter of Revelation with a tree. The question is usually asked, as you sort of indicated in the question, "was it inevitable that they eat?" Scholars seen to agree that it wasn't. So, that is the scholarly answer to your question. One important Christian principal to know is that everything God created was good.
This is important to remember as you hear other questions discussed comparing other religions.
The next principle is that mankind has freedom within limits.
Breaking the limits has consequences just like breaking physical laws do.

God did not create "Satan". He created a beautiful angel named Lucifer, who became prideful and wanted to take God's place. For this sin of pride and rebellion against God, Lucifer "fell" and became Satan. God is allowing Satan to have free reign FOR A TIME, but that time will end (some people believe sooner than later) and Satan will no longer be allowed to tempt, corrupt, and destroy mankind. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil (the fruit) was a test for Adam and Eve--the one and only thing God told them not to touch--and Satan used this to destroy them, because Satan tempts us with things that may look good but if God has said "Don't touch it" then we should obey God. Sin for a season may be filled with pleasure, but the end result is always pain and heartache.

It's a bit like why we make nuclear reactors - it has a good side (energy) and an evil one (bombs). It depends on the intention and the usage of it.
God, I believe (this is only my view) created Satan (before, he had been a good creature, who later denounced God's creations) because he created a "good fragile yet powerful creature, whom he had given free will". This free-will if given to anyone can cause problems.
Free will + power = Danger/Mercy
What comes out of free will (intentions) is something independant yet subject to God's will.
As for the fruit, I'm sure the fruit was there for another reason, and I also think it has a metaphoric meaning.

Satan was an angel (Cherub) and existed millions of year before the creation of Humans (Ezekiel 28:11 Job 38:4-7)
God created the fruit they will have to eat it but God didn´t give the permission was Satan, that was placed in the garden as a "supevisor" that was 6000 years so he is evil only from that time.
it is like in your job you do something without the authorization of the boss.

Satan means "Adversary." Luke 22:31 seems to show that Satan has his requests honoured. "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat." So does the book of Job.
Acts 5:3 says: Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?
I have been taught that the comments directed to the King of Tyre in Ezekiel 28 might also be referring to the fall of Satan from his perfect creation, because Tyre was not around in the Garden of Eden. "You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you."
John 12:25 - "Those who love their life will lose it, while those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life." This world is not about enjoying the Paradisaic conditions of the Garden of Eden, at least for the moment for Christians.

God created the tree to give Adam and Eve choice if there was not tree then Adam and Eve would have been perfect but not by choice . God let them choose .We are all created in the image of God (we all have free will). If there was no tree we would be robots God created.

One day all this questioning will lead you to the ONLY Logical answer.
There are no Invisible Sky Critters.
They were manufactured by man in his image to gain power over the weak-willed so they could scam money by offering an after-life of safety and threatening an after-life of Pain and Suffering if you didn't belief in their particular model of up-dated Invisible Sky Critter.
Don’t loose the momentum – you’re on a role.
Invisible Sky Critters CANNOT exist within Reason and Logic – it’s impossible.
The only Logical God we could Reasonable admit to exist is one who made sure there was no suffering of innocent children anywhere on the planet.
Children suffer on the planet.
ERGO, Invisible Sky Critters CANNOT exist.

it's one of the many paradoxes all religeons suffer from.
that a "god" can create the universe and yet cannot contain a "devil" it makes no sense. the religious whackos will counter with some strange reasoning as to why a devil exists, but they are only digging a deeper hole, revealing more paradoxes.
If you give up all religious non-sense, and focus on living in reality, you will lead a normal happy life.
