Now, I'm a christian, yet i don't go to church (anymore...) apparantly i'm going to hell, says one of my old-school church-mates. ever since my church split apart (I'm a baptist) i've more and more been sick with organized religion, i see it more of a hipocracy and a power-mongery than a way to essentially go to heaven. i had some catholic dean/church-guy tell me the other day that god created all men equal... "its in the bible." yet, only the priests/pope can talk to god "directly." why is are they any better than i am? it doesn't make sense... and when you sit back and think about it....ALL (or at least most...) organized religions talk to people to convert them, not giving a rat's dairy aire about the potential convertee's current belief's...and yet, when encountered with a rival religion's own witnesses, get pissed cuz the rival won't care about their beliefs...its all hypocrisy. there's tons more, but not enough space. what's your guy's views? organized or not??

I'm not a fan of organized religion, but I don't care if other people are. I like real people that have good morals and I know some very religious people like this and some that aren't religious at all...so, to each their own!

I "consider" myself a Christian but I'm not a church goer for mostly the same reason as you. I've been reading an studying the main religions on my own, especially Christianity. I've come to the conclusion that the true religion is a personal relationship with God, and respect for other people's beliefs as long as they respect my beliefs. At the end, each one of us, individually, are responsible before God for ourselves, so don't pay attention to what others might say.

As some one who has been exactly where you are i feel your frustration, And have come to ups and downs with this concept tackled and battled it to no end...
What i have felt in my own life is i became a more spiritual person.. I have searched and learned about so many different religions, and have found beauty, and beast in all of them..I have chosen to keep what is good and release what is not.
And also recently came to an understanding that maybe there are SO many diverse religions because we are all on different spiritual growth levels , we each have different needs , and different ways in which we want to get close to , or learn about God.
The point is respect all, and when you feel it is time to move on (as you so clearly do) Do just that keep growing move to the next level, your Soul no longer fits there, this is why you Feel so frustrated, you See all the negativity, but before you harm your own spirit simply Move forward, always forward, keep gaining wisdom , enlighten your mind by learning what others believe and you actually become more compassionate when your views differ or when they express negative things to you as your Friend did ... You will know where its coming from and will be able to let it go...
I hope this helps.. Blessed Be.

i get annoyed with organized politics in action in our congress!! it seems to be the same with religion sometimes, my side knows better than your side. red state, blue state argument yet over religion. silly.
i was raised baptist and went to a baptist college but now am methodist. too much division in the baptist church for some reason. we methodist are a little less uptight. you might give it a try. remember jesus' arms were stretched out on the cross to include all people. inclusive, not exclusive.
not sure about the priest/pope thing. i've never seen that in the bible but perhaps they "loosely translate" a verse and they get that out of it.

I'm having a little trouble understanding you but I think I know what you mean. It's hard to talk to religious people who can't talk about themselves without mentioning their religion or the Bible. Hard to relate to. And they don't want to be your friend if they know that you don't share their beliefs because they think that you are choosing to believe a lie. Forgive them for they know not what they do. I keep wishing there was a better way because it can be so nice to have that fellow feeling and work towards a common good. I just can't turn off my mind just to have that.

Not annoyed, but I have very little to do with organised religion, for similar reasons to yours. I am amongst the few Christian's I know physically (although I have met a few on here) who actually attempts to heed "Judge not lest ye be judged". Organised religion, I have realised exists for no better reason than to tell those within it that they have got it right, don't need to think, just regurgitate what others tell you to, which is in stark contradiction to the very beliefs they claim to ascribe to.

If you are a Christian, then you know that you can go to God directly. And you just live a life of Christ and pray for the hypocrytes and your old-school church mate.

Yes, one of the many reasons why I chose to give up being a catholic. Seriously what if we were meant to just believe in god and nothing more?

I am only annoyed with those who feel they just "have to" pass on what the believe to be their god's word. I do not care whether it is a requirement of their faith or not! I get very annoyed listening to that lame excuse for being rude and stupid!

I've always had this idea that God (or whatever you call him/her) is looking down on us shaking his/her head and saying "That is NOT what I meant at ALL!"
