Who denies that Gordon is the man now!!! Same with Montoya. From 32nd to victory lane!! As I've said before, the day Junior wins on a road course is the day I credit him as being a good driver. Today Montoya proved he's a better driver than Junior. Gordon has proved that numerous times over.

Montoya may have won, but Gordon gained 34 spots in the race to Montoya's 32, that is what I was basing my statement on.

I was not 'Bashing" junior, just stating facts. By no meas is what I said any worse than what Junior Nation has said about Gordon in the past. My statement was only meant to state that until Junior does something to merit his icon status, I will not consider him to be the great driver everyone makes him out to be. That's not "bashing."

I'm a firm believer that a road course needs to be part of the chase.

The fact that Montoya did spend so many years in F1 is another reason I believe he is a better all around driver than many in Nascar.

If it was Ronald McDonald Jr. who did it people here would be singing his praises and saying he was a God.

I am a huge Gordon Fan and have totally dislike Montoya since the F1 days when he kept running Schumie over. However; I agree and disagree with you on some points.
Yeah, Gordon did an outstanding job coming from 41st to 7th. Great job; but that is not what makes him the man. 79 wins and 4 Championships is what makes him the man. 9 ?Road Course victories is what makes him the King of the Road. Yesterday was just another day of Gordon doing an outstanding job under terrible circumstances and that is why he is a Legend.
As for JPM being better then Junior just because he won a road course race; no way. Until he wins a race at a Superspeedway, Speedway, and Short Track; he will not get the full measure of my respect.
Yeah, JPM did outstanding yesterday. To come from 32nd to Victory Lane at Sonoma is an incredible feat indeed. But let us not forget this man has spent over 90% of his career road course racing; so it should come as no suprise that he would do this well at Sonoma. I would've been suprised if he didn't finish in the top 5.
Junior did a great job yesterday. Tony Eury Jr. miscalculated and voided what would've been a great day for Junior. If Eury learned from this; look for Junior to post a Top 5 at Watkins Glen.

Looking at the results no-one can deny that strategy was a huge factor in this race, just like it was in the Coca-Cola 600 when Mears won that one. There were 43 teams with 43 different ideas of how to get to to Victory Lane and obviously the Texaco team picked the winning combo.
Some teams capitalized on their strategy mixed with cautions: Gordon(from 41-7), Montoya(32-1), Jones(43-12), Rudd(28-11). While others gambled and lost: Robby Gordon(2-16), Jr.(3-13), McMurray(1-37), Kahne(8-23), Elliott(7-19).
For the most part it seemed to me that you could tell the drivers that were just riding along because they don't seem to be at ease on a road-course: Burton(he finished 3rd but he started 6th), Kenseth, Sauter, Smith; and the drivers that were at ease with the track were all made huge jumps in positions.
By the way, get used to this fuel cell size--it's what the COT will be running in all the races.

Todays race proved Jaun has road racing skills and that Jeff can still drive a little bit himself.Beyond that Hassgis is right on Nascar completly destroyed that race with the fuel cell. Can anyone doubt Robby had the best car today and even Tony had a good one.But the race was won on fuel mileage and nothing more. Now while I accept stratdigy is an important factor in Nascar it shouldnt be the only factor and today from jump street all everyone talked about was winning in the pits.By gosh thats what happened. Please dont get me wrong Jaun won fair and square and he does have road skills, but you cant tell me he had even a top 5 car today.

I do!(actually i don't) today can not be taken a face value for driving ability. Nascar screwed up by changing the fuel cell (and no not in favor of Gordon). Today's race was a farce, a COT wit ha small cell so that only some cars could make it on on 2 stops. NASCAR made a mistake and it was not driving ability today that did anythng
PS I already think Jeff is one of the best ever, I'm just p.o.ed about the race set up today

I am a huge #24 fan, and I think he did an amazing thing today. But in celebrating his success and Montoya's as well we don't need to look like poor sports by bashing Junior.

Hey drivinfast, let me get this straight. You say Gordon should have won if he was the man. Burton started 6th and finished 3rd. Gordon started 41st and finished 7th. I would say he produced better than Burton. What would you say?
ck- What are you going to do when Jr switches to HMS in 2008? Still gonna whine about Gordon fans?
