yes. Hairballs are from grooming.. so if your cat enjoys grooming themselves or another pet in the home, they will cough up hairballs.

If you are having a problem with hairballs visit your vet for laxatone. It is a lub that is eaten to help digest the hairball. There are also food on the market now for hairballs as well.

Cats get hairballs from clumps of fur balling up and sticking together instead of passing through the intestine like it normally would. Even short-haired cats can get hairballs. You don't need to worry about it too much if it happens once in a blue moon, but you might want to consider medication if the hairballs are regular or even seasonal (since cats shed more in spring and fall). Most hairball medicines can be bought over-the-counter at almost any pet store, but it's always a good idea to check with you vet first. I'm pretty sure most medications are pills you mix in with your cat's food once a week, making it very easy to treat seasonally. There's also certain types of food, like Science Diet Hairball Formula, that help break down the clumps of fur to make them easier for your cat to pass.

Yes they do. If a cat has fur it will have a hairball coughing issue once in awhile. I haven't had a cat for a while so i don't know any of the product names, but there are products for such issues :) It is just a gel based product that you put on ... tip of the nose or top of the paw. Someplace they have to lick it off. So choose a tasty one :)

Of course- all cats groom themselves with their mouths, so all cats swallow hair. If it's only an occasional thing, there's nothing to worry about. You can purchase gel at the petstore to help control hairballs.

I think hairballs have more to do with how often you are grooming them. Make sure and give them lots of brushings when you know they are shedding and you should be fine. Another tip I heard of to help with hair balls is to put a little petroleum jelly on their front paws - they'll lick it down and get it all slippery.

Short haired cats shed just like long fur cats. Therefore, they are going to get furballs too which is going make them barf them up. Try some petromalt, which should break up the fur in the cats innards.

They can. It just depends on how much they lick themselves and how much hair they get in their mouths. We have a short hair one that does that sometimes but he' overly obsessive about cleaning himself. He's seen a vet and now is on meds by the way.

Yes, they can especially if they are excessively grooming for some reason. It's more common in long haired cats though.
