about a year ago, i started to feel depressed, and started self-injuring. i went to my parents, and told them what was going on.. they basically yelled at me & told me i could get better on my on.
but now.. its been a year, and im just a lot worse.
i dont like to leave my bed or interact with anyone.. and i dont have the energy to do anything, yet i just yelled at from my parents about it. they dont understand how i feel at all.
they also say a lot of stuff about me, and then wonder why i have no self confidence and why i hate myself so much..
honestly, i just want to be happy.
i want to stop feeling like this. i know i need help.
i really want to write my mom an email about how i feel about everything.. but i dont know. i just dont want to get yelled at, and it seems like no matter how hard i try, theyll never understand.
i dont know, i just want the pain to stop..

omg, how old are you?
cause im 13 and in the exact same situation.
i just started being depressed this year, and at first my parents would just yell at me about how i would never get out of bed or leave my room to go anywhere.
but then my mom started to understand, and she took me to a doctor to get medication for it. so ive been on the medication for about 5 months now. and it actually does work, taking it sucks and i feel like a freak but it helps with my mood a lot. and sometimes i just break down and feel helpless, but depression hurts. im really sorry :/

If this has been going on for a year and your parents aren't listening you need to step it up and go to someone else who can either talk to them FOR you or get you some help on your own. You do indeed sound clinically depressed and need someone to talk to and possibly medication.
Here in the States we don't take mental health very seriously and sometimes parents overlook what they think could just be typical adolescent behavior. They need to realize this is the real thing and not attention seeking behavior.
I'm sorry you are having such a hard time getting through to them. I wish you the best of luck. Go to a school counselor, clergy member (if your into church) or another friends parent. Your parents really need to wake up about this. Good luck.

Your parents are fools. Nobody wants to feel as you do. Some people grow out of it but it has been a long time for you. I suggest you see a psychiatrist. And since a lot of them are not always the nicest shop till you find one you can relate to. Don't allow yourself to be pissed of with a sample packet of tablets. You need to talk with someone who cares.
As far as your lethargy is concerned, try to get out of bed and have at least a shower and a shave. Once you have made that effort it is amazing how it affects you. Since lethargy can have physical causes such as anaemia it would be good to have a full blood test done.
I wish you all the best.
You will make it because you want to.

I think you should try to e mail your Mom and Dad again , tell them you NEED help..
But if they still don't listen i would Say go to a school counselor, go to other family members, friends, keep talking until someone listens, and guides you in the right direction , this is your life we are talking about, and you need to see a DR. Maybe you can schedule a Dr, appt's yourself if you have insurance, talk to the school nurse, worse comes to worse , and you feel really bad one day walk into the emergency room, and say you feel deppressed and suicidal, they will immedialtey hospitalize you call your parents and get Dr's to help and explain to them your situation.. I hate to have to give you this advice but you have to tell them you tried to kill your self and need help... That's if noone listens, and you've exhausted every alternative.. My mother went through this as a young girl and back then people didn't know how to deal with deppression, she had no help no one listened or believed her, until she actually got worse and went to the emergency room... And finally !!! got the help she needed...
You obviousy have a will to get better which is great..!!!! Don't give up..

I know how you feel. I cut myself too. I've been cutting since I was 13 and now I'm 25 and my mom knows about it. She has seen my scars and basically tells me I'm crazy. I'm depressed as well and am having a hard time getting through it with no one to talk to. I hope that you make it through and go on to live a happy life. Good luck to you.

your description of your parents tells me why you are depressed and self injuring. They are hugely dysfunctional people and you are because of them. Frankly I would seek out help on your own. If you are in school, talk to a school counsellor and be totally honest. If you arent', it being summer vacation, call any local mental health clinic and talk to someone for help. You can even call child protective services if you are under 18 and request help. You aren't alone, there is help out there for you, you just have to make enough noise to get it.

Lexapro worked wonders for me. . .if you get your mom to listen, maybe you can try that. . .also, have you tried having one of your teachers call your parents?? A teacher that you feel like you can trust?? They might listen to them more.
