I am taking a police physical test in a few weeks and was looking at the requirements to pass. Why do women have it way easier? For example:
In 2 minutes men have to do 43 pushups. Women, however, only have to do 19. On running men are required to do 2 miles in 15:56. Women get an extra 3 minutes though. What gives? Wheres all this equality stuff I am always hearing?

While I agree there are more skills than just physical strength, if you dont pass this test then thats the end of the road. This is the first test so they dont even give you a chance with the written test

Physical Fitness Tests are designed to measure cardiovascular endurance. The female body is constructed different from that of males. To measure their physical condition, I guess the wise people who designed these tests figured that females don't need to work as hard to demonstrate their physical condition.

What you described sounds close to what the Army Physical Fitness test is. I don't agree with it myself, I mean females and males have the same job requirements so why not level the playing field when it comes to physical standards.

Political correctness, pure and simple. It used to be that those who set up these tests would say "Well, you need to be able to do A,B,C, to perform this job - so we'll make sure everyone can do A,B,C". Nowadays, since most women can't pass those tests, the same standards are considered discriminatory to women (because they keep women out of the job)... even though in reality the test is simply measuring what is required to perform the job. So, women have an easier test.

When I was in the Navy, men had to be able to lift and carry 80 pounds (in addition to full oxygen-breathing apparatus and firefighting gear, and carrying a dead weight over their shoulders) to be rated firefighters... all rated firefighters were big hulking guys. No woman could do that, so for many years there were no female firefighters. Some woman complained soewhere, so they lowered the standards for women in order not to appear unfair.

Suddenly, men's jobs got much harder because now they had to pick up the slack that women couldn't handle. Women literally could not pull their weight. My job because physicaly much more difficult, and the sea-shore rotation got much longer, because women who cold not meet the minimum physical standards were allowed into the field - whereas guys who could pass the women's test but not the men's test were still not allowed to enter that specialty track. I eventualy quit.

Now I work in a desk job that requires nothing more physically strenuous than lifting a pencil. Women can do this job equally as well as men. In this field, I have no problem with working alongside women; since the job doesn't require physical strength women are capable of "carrying" their load.

As long as you work in a physically demanding job, there will always be double (easier) physical fitness standards for women. More likely than not, you will be picking up their slack - just as you would have to for any injured or weaker male.

There is no real equality, hasn't been for decades. Sorry to sound nasty, but get used to it - that's the way the world is nowadays.

Whether we like to admit it or not physiologically men and women are made up differently. However, there are many women out there who could perform at the level a man does physically - however, they need to work harder at it.

Those requirements show what a man can do when he is in average physical shape and vice versa for a women. I for one feel just as safe with a women officer in the field.

There are a lot of other skills needed to be in law enforcement . Generally those skills are used more than physical strength.

It's called gender norming. There is no argument that men are stronger and faster than women. The reduced physical requirements allow women to do the job. The military is the same way. I tend to agree with the adjusted requirements, but I think the women's requirements could be a bit higher.

Women generally don't have the physical abilities of a fit man. Some women can't do 43 push ups, and therefore the requirements are made easier.

that's a robust question. this is been a on an identical time as on condition that I enlisted & served interior the militia (US military). on the time, adult adult males had to accomplish to a passing point on the actual-well being examination the place women human beings who did no longer bypass it have been waived instead. This grow to be in the process hardship-loose-practise. besides the indisputable fact that, once I took the preliminary get right of entry to-examination (it grow to be an intelligence-point attempt) given to me on the recruiting workplace (there have been others taking the attempt on that comparable day as properly), women human beings have been easily required to attain significantly bigger than the adult adult males, by utilising 20 factors. This grow to be to make certain in case you're able to be able to desire to even enlist before everything. the standards could have replaced on condition that then (interior the mid-70s. . definite, this is been a on an identical time as). i know that The Air stress has bigger/stricter standards for get right of entry to. i actually do no longer know what standards there are relating firefighters as i did no longer bypass into this field of artwork. adult adult males & women human beings are distinctive of their layout, so there'll be areas the place one or the different has the sting on potential. the two are the two useful in what they each and each respectively carry to this worldwide in existence.

I think they should be more strict than they are for women now. But not the equal to men.

The fact of the matter is that genetically speaking, the physical upper limit for women simply isn't equal to that of a man.

Because then they couldn't do the same things as men. They want to be able to do everything we do. Like be firefighters and soldiers and cops, but they don't have the same physical strength as we do so people feel sorry for them and make tests easier.

This double standard is an example of blatant discrimination. Everyone should have the same standards of testing.
