Put a ticking clock next to her while she sleeps. The ticking reminds dogs of their mother's heart beat so that should make her relax. If that doesn't work, play soft music or a radio talk show because dogs like the sound of the human voice, and another thing is don't forget to walk her right before she goes to bed so she can use the bathroom. That probably sounded really dumb but a lot of people don't know to do that so I'd thought I'd let you know. Hope this helps!

Settling In A New Puppy

The alarm clock is a good idea. Also put something warm in her crate (if you are crate-training, if you aren't, then you should). Not a heating pad that she can chew up and possibly get hurt, but maybe a nice warm blanket, or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. I would also allow her crate to be in your bedroom at first, that way she will be comforted with your presence, even if you aren't awake.

If she continues to do this for a long time, then you will have to start ignoring her, as she is using this as a way to get your attention.

Tire her out right before bed, don't give her water right before bed, and take her out to potty before bed, and she should be fine for the night.

do you have a utility room or small uncarpeted room you can use if youre not thrilled on the crate? My dog is nearly 3 - weve moved house a few times so shes still not 100% staying alone at night....we got a baby gate, popped it over the door in her 'room' so she can see all around her, maybe instead of closing the kitchen door on the pup you could use this? might make it a bit more easy for him to settle if he sees you havent actually left the house. if we went out without Poppy, we used to leave a tv on low - might be worth doing something like that? maybe a low radio is better than a whinning dog!!!

Put her in a small, yet comfortable crate! Don't give her a huge crate or anything. My best results were using a0 a comfortable blankket or two, b0 2 or 3 chew toys, or c0 a clock. go buy like a mini ticking clock and put it near or in her crate. the ticking of the clock calms the pupp(y, ies). It also tires them out. Don't put potty pads (if you use them), by the crate, bed or food. Food may be a good idea to put in her kennel (crate), and some come with mini bowls to hook on the door for food and water. Get your puppy a dark, quiet romm to sleep in. Make her crate as comfortable as you need, though not too hard, not too soft. Check out petco.com, I got my dog's crate there for $9.99!

Believe it or not my puppy had the same problem. I actually, had to allow it to sleep with me for a bit on my bed to calm it down. Dogs do not like being alone at night. Also if it's a brand new puppy and not trained to go outdoors yet you can leave a night light in a room. Light actually will calm a dog down. It worked for my puppy. Purchase it a cage too so it has somewhere that's it's "own" and somewhere to sleep. It will feel more comfortable that way.

You need to take her for a good walk before you go to bed. Also, does she have a favorite toy? If so, put it with her. Also, get her on a schedule. Like...8 o'clock is bed time, so at 7:30 take her for a walk, and at 8 put her in her kennel for bed. Also, ignore her when she yelps, you are nurturing that behavior when you go to her. That was just an example of time. Make her bed time, your bed time, because you dont want to be up and walking around while shes trying to sleep, see what I mean? Good Lcuk!

puppy needs its own crate with a very soft puppy bed pushed inside it!!! clamp a water and food bowl to the wire door so hunger or thirst wont keep it awake !!! Get a blanket from the pups mum to keep in cage with it every night, try to get a newly "scented" one each few days with mums smell on it -- this works like a charm !!! Make sure to take it out to potty b4 bed every night & you may have to do this 2 to 3 times a night -- just like changing diapers on a new baby !!!!
Get an ALARM CLOCK THAT WINDS UP & TICKS SOFTLY ALL NIGHT to put in bed with it -- stuff it in a doggy stuffed animal if possible!!! Feed well be fore bed!!! But dont over feed as pups will eat til they literally burst !!!! Go by feed bag directions and buy top quality puppy food: iams, purina!!! Warm "breast milk (luke warm in mike b4 feeding) -- pet stores have B itches milk for puppies !!!! It may be a bit pricey but will make a big diff. in puppies's sleeping and neighbors anger !!!
If crate doent help, put pup in bed with you! You is now: mommy dog !!!
Crate should be not too hot or not too cold! Make sure there's plenty of ventilation!!! Dont do not sweat like humans, so you must make sure pup doesnt get overheated!!!!
Go to on-line site for animal rearing and best of luck!!!

I have heard that wrapping up a ticking alarm clock in a blanket should do the trick. Apparently the puppy thinks that the blanket is its mother and the ticking she thinks is the mother's heart beat. I am not sure if this works or if it is just an "Old Wive's Trick" If you do this, I hope it works. But make sure you don't set the alarm.

Wind up CLOCK works for some; didn't for my pup.
BLANKET & something with your scent and toy helps.
EXERCISE prior to bed & be tired helps.
Still wasn't enough or total solution.
CUDDLE TIME. This is what was the end solution (keep the above suggestions, too. 1 hr prior to my bedtime, I gave her the OK to by on the couch with me and a blanket over her. Cuddled against my belly or legs with blanket for warmth & darkness. This made her sleepy & not enough sleep to want up. Then she had a potty trip (after warm blanket) & put to bed with her blanket over her again. Ahhhh quiet at last.
