Intellectually this can be accomplished by reading the Gospels. I suspect though that what you are really after is experience of God. I don't think you can say you know God unless you experience Him. And for this I would recommend
(a) contemplative prayer - there are many forms of contemplative prayer. As a Catholic the one that I would most strongly recommend is the Rosary. However there are many other prayers that can be said in a contemplative manner. One of the most ancient comes to us from the Orthodox church, and is simply repeating the prayer "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me a sinner." Christ can come to you through the contemplative repetition of this prayer. There are many others.
(b) the Eucharist - if you are Catholic and are searching for God, this is one of the most powerful means of finding him. Go to confession, every week if necessary, and receive the body of Christ in a state of grace. He is there.
(c) acts of service - volunteer somewhere doing community service. You will find that Christ is in those you serve, if you have the eyes to see Him.

That's an excellent question! Many people believe this is not possible, but I'm a witness that it's not only possible, but will happen as you do the following:
- Continue searching for the truth
- Bring your life into compliance with what you know to be true already
As you do this, you'll be led line upon line, precept upon precept, to know who God is and about His plan for our growth and development on earth. You'll also be able to participate in His plan by helping others develop an understanding of truth. There is not a more fulfilling activity on the planet.
Take a look at some of the video and text on the following web site for more complete information.

We come to a knowledge of God the same way that you would get to know any one else. By spending time with Him. Pray, read and study His word, search for Him with all your heart, and you will find Him (or rather He will find you). Listen for His still, small voice, and love Him with all of your heart. This is how you will come to a knowledge of God.
God bless, I'll be praying for you.
