I live in Central Florida and the last 2 years has been a tick nightmare for my dogs. My 2 dogs are on Frontline Plus but every few days I have to sit down and pull 20-30 ticks off of them. I honestly think the Frontline is doing nothing. I have had my yard and house sprayed, but it seems there is no stopping these blood sucking ticks. Does anyone have a solution better than what I am doing?

Wow a lot of answers! I can't use the dog tick collars b/c we have cats too and my vet said it could kill them if they come in contact with them. Also, is the K9 Advantix safe to use on the dogs with the cats in the house?

I live in Florida too and we've treated dogs for a lot of tick diseases, like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lymes, and Ehrlichia. Frontline works well, but ticks can take several days to die. They can still attach and feed! I personally think Advantix kills ticks faster, but still not right away. You can use it, but you just can't let your cats rub against the dog just after applying it (the box tells you exactly how long to wait). Or if the cat sleeps touching the dog you shouldn't use it. You might want to try the Frontline Spray as you can spray whole dog quickly. Also, reapply it every 2 weeks for several doses to keep the application heavy. Continue to pull the ticks off daily until things are under control--it will just take time. I'd also have the yard sprayed again in 2 weeks as the sprays won't kill the tick eggs. I hate ticks.

Never heard of frontline plus not working; the dogs will still pick up ticks but once the bug bites, it dies...
K9 Advantix then BioSpot would be my next suggestions...
Are you bathing too soon before or after you apply the frontline?
Have you treated your yard with pesticide, Sevin dust etc?
In heavily infested areas it needs to be applied monthly...
Perhaps you should ask your vet about Revolution, which is a pill that also takes care of heartworms.
Another thought would be to give them garlic & brewer's yeast tablets as a supplement.
I have also heard that you can spray them with skin-so-soft and water 50/50 mix; I'd think either of those you could do in addition to the frontline.

We find that Advantage is one of the best. Where mites have caused skin problems we have added 1ml of Oral Ivamectin daily, an added bonus was complete protection from both fleas and ticks. Strength of Ivamectin is same as Sheep drench, here we can buy it 100ml at a time. A 10 litre container is a touch dear. Some produce agents will split a pack. Don't know about Vets.

I live in Virginia and I have had the flea problems, i had the same problem with both frontline and frontline plus.
I found advatage seems to be working much better. I also got the yard fertilizer with teh bug repellent that repels ticks and fleas and so far I'm not having problems. ( knock on wood)

I would suggest you try Adams. It's a spray so you can spray in areas most needed. I lived in Hawaii and ticks and fleas are really abd out there. i also work at an Animal hospital I found Adams was the only thing that worked!! Good luck!

Advantix works very well for my dog. Yes, it is toxic to cats, but only while it is wet. So maybe leave the dog out side or separate them for a while it is drying (i worked for a vet and this is what she told people to do, we had client who owned cats use it on their dogs, and no one had problems)

Try a Preventic collar. You can use it with Frontline.

Try this... It is natural, and you can use it in the yard around your house, on your pets, and sprinkle in your carpet, etc.
Just make sure you get the food grade kind, not the kind used in swimming pools.
Good luck...
