I have a small back yard. I am limited to walking due to asthma.
I would like to have a small breed and one who is easy to house break. Could any one suggest a good breed of dog for me?

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are highly intelligant making them easy to train. They don't require too much exercise. They are happy being in the house being a couch potatoe. But they are active when you want them to be .They are best described as being Miniature Golden Retrievers only a lot less hyper. They are ulimate lap dogs jumping in your lap every time you sit.

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel---I know--it's a long name, but they are adorable dogs. Some people (the owners of the dogs that you see on the internet) like to keep their dog's ears very long--which i personally don't think is very attractive. These dogs are playful, LOVING, lap dogs, cute, and don't need much backyard space. My dog was house trained in less that 3 weeks and even before he was, accidents were rare. If you want an easy, sweet dog, this is your breed. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

I would suggest a Chihuahua. This small breed is really easy to house break and will learn really fast.

Also, this breed won't need a walk, because it will only need from 30 to 40 minutes of excersise which it can get by playing. Also, it will love to snuggle against you. It will have to sleep inside your house.

For more info, e mail me.

In order of my personal preference: Maltese, Shih Tzu, Pomeranian, Miniature Schnauzer, Toy Poodle. I like the small terrier breeds too, but they might be too frisky for the owner with some health issues. Best to you.

If you want small breeds, I suggest you to get Toy something like TOY poodles, TOY Pomeranian, and etc. Or you can get a naturally small breed like Chihwawah, or the dog I have, which is a Shih Tzu. I hope that helps!

OK, I would suggest a little dog because if you get a big dog than you should probably have a larger yard but i would reccomend a pekenese mix and I would reccomend a dachsund if you are rich and would like to pay for the back problem bills if he brakes his back if he hurts it, it will not be good for you your dog if he hurts his back.

Here is one of many online breed selectors:

Off the top of my head I would say a Bichon Frise or a Boston Terrier. Possibly a Pug as you both have limited breathing.

I would say go online and find one at a pet shelter that is of mixed breed. I find that mixed breed dogs are smarter and healthier, plus you can get them for free at a pet shelter. ust find a dog you like and you feel is the right size.

I highly recommend Mini Schnauzers. I have had larger dogs (labs and goldens) and I currently have two mini schauzers- they are great. They do well in small yards, and if you don't can't walk them often. They are also very smart, loving, and don't shed. They train well- as long as you are consistent.

I would get a bassett hound. They are basically lazy though considered a medium dog. They are smart and ours was very easy to housebreak. Here comes "The Judge."
