To those in R&S, when you read a comment, do you give it a thumbs up or thumbs down depending on whether you agree with the person or whether that person's comment is useful and relevant?

Isn't it our duty to be impartial with giving thumbs up or thumbs down? Wouldn't that stop a lot of anger and insults of ignorance? If a comment is useful, should we not give it a thumbs up no matter how we feel on the subject?

This forum has opposing views. Good posts are thumbs downed all the time because a certain group of people do not believe in the context of that post. Why?

Example Q&A:
Q: What are your feelings about religion?

A1: OMG I am a Hindu and Jews should be sent to an island by themselves to die!!!! 5 Thumbs up, 1 Thumbs down

A2: Religion is a cultural phenomenon marked by scriptures, including the Qur'an and the Bible. As a devout Christian, I believe that we should all be loved and accepted, but that I believe in God. I advise reading the Bible. 1 Thumbs down, 5 Thumbs up.

J94us2000- These aren't my beliefs. I just ran out of room to put "these are not my beliefs" in my question. They're just examples. If I had room, I'd put more perspectives down.

I do rate answers based upon their content and if the question was answered. I'm not with any particular group, so I know that I can't be lumped in with them.

Sometimes, if the answer is funny I will give it a thumb's up. Humor is good it lightens the mood. Of course, it's no fun when it's at your own expense.

I give a thumbs up for a good answer, even if I disagree
Someone who answers with a comment about the question that is not an answer I thumb down
Using the question in your example, I would give A 1 a thumbs down for belittling and ranting
i would give A 2 a thumbs up for being a thoughtful , sensitive answer

I will give a thumbs up if I agree with the answer. I will give a thumbs down for an insulting answer. I don't normally give a thumbs down for just disagreement.

I believe in the thumbs up and down thing. It gives me a chance to give a finger, any finger to the people who are ignorant, stupid, or just plain dumb. I give a thumbs up to any intelligent answer, even if it goes against my personal beliefs. I mean in R&S, there really are no "wrong" answers as R&S is all individual belief.

I generally only thumbs down if someone gives an idiotic answer, one that doesn't make sense or was just plain bigoted. I don't thumbs down if I don't agree-- there are plenty of things I don't agree with, but I'm sure plenty of people don't agree with me.
I thumbs up on things that are clear, make sense or are good straightforward answers.
I don't thumbs up or down on every question or answer, just the ones that seem to pop out at me.

Some people attack the person irrespective of the validity or relevance of the answer as a matter of course. I will endeavor to be impartial in thumb play once I get to level 2..

Ummm... this question has been posed before... and I've answered it before.

Thumbs DOWN for people who insult, disrespect, or dishonor our faith. You can be critical and be respectful. Those I do not thumbs-down on.

Thumbs UP for people who, I feel, have the correct answer... or even a humorous one that makes me laugh!!! I may not even agree with their position, but give me a good laugh, and I'll give you a thumbs UP!

I don't give any thumbs down, a few thumbs up are given to those that stated their point clearly and wisely.

I too have noticed this and wonder if they think they are truly hurting anyone? It is a childish and immature thing to do and it shows, just as the "mocking" types of questions do...........

I am sad to say people will attack anything they can. Using thumbs up or down is just another way of attacking. Most people don't care about how that makes other feel, only how it make them feel. It is why most religious people don't give best answer to those out side their own religion.

If I agree, I give them a Thumbs Up.
If I don't, I give them a Thumbs Down.
If it's Fireball226, I give her a Thumbs Down.
