Pomeranians belong to the Toy Group of the AKC. The smallest member of the Spitz family, they have little pointy ears, a sharp muzzle and their tail curls up over the back. They get their name from Pomerania, the part of Germany they originally came from. They first weighed about thirty pounds and were not that popular, but selective breeding has reduced their size to between three and seven pounds.

They are dainty little things, with a thick double coat (which means they have a harsh offstanding outer ocat and a short thick undercoat). This requires that they be brushed every day gently to prevent their hair from getting matted. They could easily break a bone if they fall or jump from a great height.

Poms are a very popular breed, and come in many colours and combinations of colour. They require very little exercise, make wonderful watchdogs, and are great pets for people who spend a lot of time at home.

My friend has a Pomeranian but I have a Shih Tzu. They are basically like the size of a TOY poodle *not a normal poodle* except a little bit smaller. If its a TOY Pomeranian, then it will be a little bit smaller than the normal Pomeranian. Plus it DOES shed so make sure you have a vacuum or hard wood floors.I hope that helps.

I am owned by an almost 3 year old pomeranian, and he is easily the best dog I have ever met. He is intelligent and loving, social and happy. He is not overly barky, but I trained him to be that way. He does obedience & agility, there is just no end to how smart these dogs are!

The only bad thing I have to say about this breed is that they can be pretty possessive over their things, and a bit hard headed, but I love him anyway :)

My current Pom is my second..my first one Elrond, was in 1982 and sold me forever on these little balls of unconditional love..he passed away when he was 13 and in a month, I had my current love of my life..Rusty who is 12 years old...I will always have at least one..they are fun, lively, yes high maintenance and can be barkers..all the things these people are saying..but there is no better payback for your time and love. I could not live without my baby. He sleeps next to my head on his own pillow and I reach out and pet him several times a night..I feel secure knowing no one can sneak up on me...and loved too, know this is where he wants to be!! Get a Pom ..you will never go back!!:) oh Elrond was a purebred and weighed 20 lbs. (AKC registered) Rusty is one quarter Peke (looks like a Pom) and is 12 lbs..so you can probably find just about any size you want..Wish I could attach his picture ..you would be sold...

I LOVE MY POM! He found us! Samsun is a very loyal and wonderful dog. Pom's were bread down in size. They use to be used for sleigh dogs and people realized how loving they are so they bred them down in size. (use to normal to see a large 30 lb or more pom)
Pom's are also very much into their feelings. They will let you know when you have upset them. In example leaving them for a long period of time will sometimes, not always, lead them to showing you their feelings by dumping over their food and water dish, tearing something up or basically ignoring you. It won't last long because they know who feeds them.
There are many "sizes" of poms. Fuller and thinner. Both are great. They will also not put up with being bullied around by other dogs either. Little dog with a big dog attitude.

Best dog I've owned!

My friend has poms, very friendly, sweet dogs and easily trained. They are somewhat fragile due to their size so if you have small kids who like to pick them up and then drop them, I would avoid. They do need regular brushing as their coats are longer, and by regular I would say every day.

They are furry and they are very difficult to groom. Rather have an alsatian.
