You know how like people that are deaf use sign language. Well, when they think do they see signs in their head or do they think actual words? I thought that deaf people didn't know how to pronounce any words.

I think it depends on the Deaf person. I was born with some hearing, so sometimes I see signs in my head when I'm trying to recall signs or whatever, but I can also hear myself talk (inner monologue) like many hearing people. I know taht many of my profoundly deaf friends think mostly in images...but some can hear when they dream...even though they have never heard anything in their waking lives.

It probably depends on their degree of hearing/speech. If a deaf person has gone deaf sometime in their lives after being able to hear, they'd probably think in words like you are right now.
If a deaf person was born deaf, or went deaf at a very young age, they could possibly think in signs or even "written text".

Because some deaf people can lipread, and I met a deaf guy who could talk a bit, too.

But to be honest I'm not sure. I hope this helped.

if they are born deaf they may have trouble pronouncing words. if people become deaf they can usually talk fine, maybe with a lisp or a little problem, but no big deal. when you think, do you think words, pictures,or nothing? personally, wheni think, i hear things. i believe that although they may not be able to speak they may hear things. they probably think in sign language, if that is how they learned to communicate.

Some deaf people CAN pronounce words but they think like everyone else. Just because you can't *speak* something doesn't mean it's different because you can't say them. And they can *read* so they aren't thinking in signs. Do you think in written *words*?

Good question.

If you can read without moving your lips then you can actually think words without seeing signs. Some deaf people can actually speak. Because you can not hear does not mean you can not talk.

Well do you see words in your head? I sure don't. Think about someone who doesn't speak a language at all? They would have to think in pictures 24/7.

Deaf people don't have problems with their eyes -just their hearing.

many deaf people don't speak b/c they haven't learned how to or they don't want to. it's hard to talk when you can't hear your own voice. just b/c they don't speak doesn't mean they're uneducated. they do go to school and learn how to read.

you don't see language, in any form, the mind associates ideas with either symbols or sounds, in the case of the deaf, it would be only symbols.
