Generally most police reports are public record and can be read and obtained by going to your local police departments records division. There are however exceptions to this. Many juvenile crime matters are not a matter of public record and can not be obtained by the general public. In addition many times a pending murder investigations records are also not public as releasing the reports can jeopardize pending cases. You may only be able to obtain the initial reports obtained by the first responders but not the follow up investigative reports. It would depend on time frames and the circumstances regarding the investigation.

All the best to you

Go to the police department where the original report was filed and ask for the report you want. You will probably have to pay a small fee, but they are public records. An unsolved murder report can be obtained, but any investigative work on the case will not be disclosed.

unless a case is under investigation or in court, the police records are public record and can be viewed by anyone at any time.

If you know the date and the incident, you can request the records. Research may cost extra if you are unsure of the details and you must pay per page, which varies from department to department
