Earlier, I asked this question: Why would an all-powerful being limit itself to the very flawed human body?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqnpyTvVOBjGTpqsrvHNy848.Bd.?qid=20070624180733AAtCj7w
I was told I got it backward.
So, let me ask it again, but with the appropriate phrasing of the original statement.
Per the Bible, God made man in His image. This is something I have never understood. If God is all powerful, why chose this form when there are so many other possibilities, especially those than transcend human comprehension?
Hopefully, I have it right now.
Thank you.

I removed the Bible quotation limitation on this one. Quote away. Can't say it'll make a difference. I've found the Bible to be a contradictory book with which I vehemently disagree in many areas. I'm sorry if that offends you, but I was taught through my college education and through the college education that I provide to question everything. That's what I'm doing. And I've found that the the more I learn about the Bible (I'm trying to read it myself, but I can read Shakespeare easier than I can read the Bible!), the more I find that I disagree with it.
So, please, if that's what it takes, use it. But know that I've had a hard time with logically accepting the Bible as reliable.

Scott B.: I'm an inquiring mind. Got a problem with that?
And who are you to say that you can prove you are right?

Lori S. Great effort, but I think your analogy is logically flawed. I'll have to look into that, but it did make me think.

I'm sorry short2stuff, but I've tried watching those networks. They make me believe that Christians are insane. I don't think you want those folks representing Christians. They are ridiculous.

dr 7: I've read that story before. Heard it before. As great as your explanation was, I'm not sure it really provided me new insight. I'm not meaning to insult. Just being honest. Thanks though.

I also answered your other question.
I go also a little bit further. God is not like us in every sense of the meaning. We know right from wrong, and that is what it is.
He would rather like us to be more like Him with our knowledge of right from wrong. However, we have a choice.
You said that you do not want any Bible quotations. I understand that you do not believe in the Bible. However, to us it is our God's Word and He communicates with us through His Word.
You can see more God in some people than in others. Godliness makes miracles possible. More we relate to Him, more we are like God. We have a free will. That makes things interesting here.

God isn't limited to the human body. The human body is material. God is pure spirit, and there are no limitations. The short answer is that the human form pleases God. He can take whatever form He likes, or none at all. But, our material body is limited, whereas God's human form, being spiritual, is unlimited. We see with our eyes, but God can see with any part of His body, because He is absolute. There is no qualitative difference between God's eyes and God's fingers.
We may make clothing in our "image". When we put on clothing, they assume the shape of our form, but this does not mean that the clothing is limiting our actions, or that the clothing itself has any power. Similarly, the human body is the clothing in the image of God's form. The difference is that we become limited by our body, whereas God is never limited by form. We are conditioned, but God is never conditioned. God can take the form of a fish, but He is not limited to the intellect of the fish by taking the form of a fish. God can still do anything He likes, even in the form of a fish. God can take human form, but He is not limited to the conditions of the human body. Also, when God takes human form, His body only appears to be material, but God is spiritual at all times, regardless of the appearance of form.

God made the animals and for many years they walked the Earth. Then He made man to His image. This is man could live here on Earth in the Garden that God made. Then seeing that Adam was alone and sad, God put Adam to sleep, took a rib from him and created Eve a mate for Adam. Now God was pleased with them and happy. He told them how to behave and what to do and not to do. In other words, He is the Father and we are His children. Your mother and father made you and you obey them. So we obey God. The 10 Commandments are the Laws that God made which by the way the law of today that the governemt has is the same as the Commandments. God said not to kill, steal, nor make fals witness against your neighbor and on. The laws that the government made are the same and you dissobey them you go to jail. When God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, well the were tempted and did eat the fruit. They were weak; weak because God did not make them that way, it is because He wanted them to be innocent of sin, He did not want them to do wrong or bad things. But, like children they didn't listen. What happened? They realized they were naked and hid from God who actually walked the Earth. When God was looking for Adam and Eve, they were hidding in shame and God knew right away what they had done. So for disbehaving, they were totally banned from the garden. Living in the garden, they did not have to work for their food, because it was provided, they did not have to worry about a place to live or pay rent because the garden was all theirs, and they would be happy knowing that they had everything and God was providing. They were to listen and obey God our Father, but instead they blew it. Read Genisis and you will see. But pray to Him and ask Him to help you understand, and you can read and understand the Bible better. God made all animals on Earth, in the air and water, all that was missing was man and woman to (male and female) to bring forth children in their image as God made them in His image. Person who can walk, breath, talk and eat and live for ever. Oh, for disobeying God, instead of living an eternal life on Earth, their time was shortened. Now, when we say, "Believe in Jesus and you shall have eternal life", that is not in years on Earth. It is after you physically die, your internal spirit will live on in Heaven only is you accepted Jesus in your hearth with sincerity and you believe that He died for our sins. Bless you and check out TBN Christian Station is you have Dish or Direct TV and check our Sky Angel, they are both Christ Centered to help.

You're asking a question that every believer must face in their life. It's a good one. Why would God put himself into a human body? It doesn't make sense does it? Unless there was a method to the madness. If there is one thing people tend to forget is that God always has a plan. A plan that has been in motion before we fell from grace. There are three r's to understanding this plan: redemption, renewal, and reunion. Let's start at the beginning. Please bear with me if you are serious in wanting to know.
As you've heard, we were created in the image of God. The image is reflective of the nature of God, a triune nature, three in one. You probably think that's crazy talk and some do, even some Christians have a hard time with it. God blessed us with a body, a soul, and a spirit. The soul is the seat of our thoughts and emotions. The spirit is the deeper, ethereal and more total part of our being. After God made Adam's body, as said in Genesis, he breathed into him with his own breath the breath of life and became alive. God gave Adam dominion over the earth and a job in the garden. He later made him a helper in the form of Eve, the first woman, from Adam's rib. During the time in the garden The first man and woman walked and talked with God in the garden. An initmate relationship like a parent with a child. Mankind had a face to face relationship with God. That changed when they disobeyed the only rule they were given. Sin entered the world and mankind. Since God could not look upon sin he kept a certain distance from us. In the Bible we learn that the penalty for sin is death, which also came into the world. Men began to wear out, age and die. The price was to hard to pay off by man's efforts. There weren't enough animal sacrifices to compensate it. God solved the problem by offering Himself as a sacrifice out of his love for us. He entered this world as a man since it was man that is under the death sentence. The Spirit of God made it possible for a young woman named Mary to give birth to a child that is all God and all man. That child, Jesus, came into this world for the purpose of paying the price for sin for all of us. When Jesus was being crucified He could have called fire from heaven to burn up all his accusers but He didn't. He loved mankind so much that He stayed, suffered and died on a cross for us because it would take a shedding of blood, His perfect blood, to pay the price. After three days He rose from death in a resurrected eternal body. Jesus' death satisfied the price of sin. This payment, however, is free to anyone who accepts it. It comes from accepting Jesus and His sacrifice for us. Jesus sacrifice offers mankind redemption before God. His resurrection offers us renewal of our bodies as well as our souls and spirits. With the redemption and renewal comes a reunion with God. A reunion with a right relationship with God. One day Jesus will come again to earth to finish what He started on the cross. Those who have accepted Jesus, both the living and the dead, will have eternal resurrected bodies like Him. They will be reunited with a face to face relationship as well as a heart to heart one with God again like before the Fall. We will come full circle because God came in the form of Jesus and humbled Himself by dying on a cross so that mankind may have a way to return and be reunited with Him forever. The choice is yours and everyone elses, choose wisely. I hope this helps you and any who read it.
If you seek a clearer way read and understand the messages in the Bible I recommend reading the Living Bible or the NIV version of the Bible. If you seek some answers to some honest questions like yours then I recommend Lee Strobel's Case series of books: The Case For Christ, The Case For Faith, and The Case For A Creator. Stroebel was a former atheist who asked similar questions like yours and researched the answers. His journey to finding the answers is documented through the series. I hope you find what you are looking for, God bless you.

it truly is incredibly a robust question. i've got faith that the product, someone replaced into no longer incorrect. He and he or she have been in basic terms corrupted by ability of determination. a bad determination. a twin of God isn't that we are equivalent with God, No no. That in basic terms ability that all of us know top from incorrect. we actually do. We do in basic terms no longer supply a credit to God definitely, tremendously if we do no longer have faith in one. we are right here for God's purposes. we actually did no longer have a call approximately our bypass to right here, yet we've one substantial option to make what involves the time after this. while Jesus replaced into right here her replaced into completely human and fully God. even while He replaced right into a human, He replaced into appropriate. He did precisely what He got here to do. we could desire to constantly do a similar, we don't could desire to do each physique's interest.you in basic terms could desire to do the interest God gave so you might do. you're clever. you will parent it out.

Good question. Makes you wonder what it truly means.
Is MAN in his image, or mankind? Thus, does he have a gender or is he multi-gendered? Also, if not, then can man be in his image if man has physically 'more?'
In any case, good point- why isn't God in the form of.... godzilla?

I'm not Christian anymore, but I believe the idea is that God created us in innocence, like it is. The problem is that we aren't perfect, so when we ate from the tree, we gained knowledge and had no idea what to do with it.
MEANING... "image" isn't about the physical, here.
