Any one else here have severe back pain because of a bulging disc? If so what pain medication works the best for you? I currently take Vicodin but it doesn't work much.

Pain medication will only provide a temporary relief...this is because the pain is due to a mechanical force (the position of the disc has changed and putting pressure on mechanoreceptors that stimulate the pain response)...specific movements or techniques should be employed to change the position of the disc.

I recommend seeing a PT with MDT experience (http://www.mckenziemdt.org) or one with manual therapy experience.

I have had bulging disc problems for a long time. It got to the place the pain medication did not help.

I see a pain specialist. I can have an injection, called an epidural, about every three months. It has helped a lot. I also try to do the back exercises I was shown in PT. When things get really bad, I go to PT for a couple weeks.

Back pain is horrible, I hope you find some relief.

The only pain medication that is going to give you good relief would need a prescription, so i would be heading down to the doctors office

I have dealt with disc problems most of my life and I do not use narcotics to do it. You are a fool if you do because over time you have to take more and more to gain relief, and eventually you are dependant upon them, in other words, addicted, physically.
I use physical therapy and ice, and it works if you do it consistantly.
