I keep seeing "bonus". How does it work?
The only one I am familiar with is re-up bonus . It could be substantial., depending on MOS, but a bonus just for enlisting, ( non prior service) is there such a thing?

If there's a bonus, then your life will be in harms way. That's the bitter truth.

You could make some really good money by just enlisting in the Army. If your GT score is high, your bonus will be higher. Also, bonuses are HUGE for the more dangerous job or the ones that really need recruits. Make sure you talk to your recruiter about what bonuses are available to you because they WILL not just offer them if you are already determined to get in. My husband KNEW he wanted to go into the Army so they saw the fact that they didn't really have to convince him....never even mentioned a bonus to us. THEN, about 3 months out of AIT we found at that a guy who enlisted at the SAME time as my husband did, for the same MOS, got a $20,000 bonus. We were HEATED! You have a lot of options.....make sure you explore them all!!

Yes, it depends on the job and not all jobs have a bonus.
