They are the warriors of today. Brave and Unselfish they give the gift of battle. They have stepped to line, like so many before them have done. In every single war, young men have towed the line, and layed their life down, in offer of freedom. Whose Freedom? Sometimes it was for there own, their family or for Generations yet to come.

Todays Soldiers are just as brave as the Spartans. And just like back then, everything is politics and destruction.

Impossible to compare.
First ... please don't accept the depiction of the Spartans in the movie "300" as anything resembling reality. Eventhough a pretty cool movie - remember, this was an interpretation of a graphic novel/comic book - NOT an attempt to re-tell history.
Spartans were trained in armed hand-to-hand combat. Swords, shields, bows. Soldiers of today would simply call in an air strike from 30,000 feet or have a sniper take someone down from 1000 feet. In hand-to-hand - I'm afraid todays soldiers aren't trained in swordplay - so how can you compare?
In straight out hand-to-hand (no weapons) I'd argue todays high-end soldier - (remember the Spartans were the best-of-the-best, not the average) would likley beat a Spartan. Physiologically todays soldier would be larger - probably by quite a bit. Better nutrition. Better training techniques. The average Spartan would not have been as ripped as the movie depicts.

The modern day US military, fighting with a bad attitude and fighting for keeps is the strongest power the world has ever known.

Whether that is a good thing or not is a whole other discussion.

Spartans are nothing compared to today's soldiers. The gears they have makes them superior.

But keep in mind that the soldiers like the ones in Iraq are not geared up with all the use full technologies that exist.

The Marines are the closest to being compared to a Spartan. But I am sure the Spartans survival skills were more on point than any military branch of today because they had little to no technology

the legionaires (formally the French Foriegn legion), they are still out there, they are still the premier mercenary (guns for hire, battalion size)unit in thewolrd, and have been for over 125 years. still have the 5 year year contract, no questions asked on enlistment, yur identity is chaged, and if you live out your service tothem, you carry a cardm , witha phone number. If you are ever arrested, or in dire circumstances, call that number, and you will no longer have any problem. It is an all male unit, they train night and day, they use modern weapons and tactics, and deploy anywhere needed, they will not fight for nay nation, they have there long held loyalties, and in exchanged, there actions are never reported in the media as Legionare particiption. they go under the name of the nation they are hired by. you may hear of UN troopps in Afganastan, and they could be legionaires. highly trained and closed to the media , they could give the Spartans a run for there money.

Every one of them. The weapons, unforms and tactics may change but heroism, sacrifice and dedication never does.
