To my knowledge there is no source from which the IRS would be restricted if you owe back taxes. There are some limits on how much they can take at one time but not the source.

If you filed jointly they can. You would recieve notice prior to them doing so, which would give you the opportunity to file an objection to be considered. But don't count on the objection saving you fro being garnished. It is worth objecting to though as you never know they might consider your objection considering the circustances. While your disability check can not be garnished for other debt, like unsecured credit etc. Any government check, SSI, SSD, Va compensation, etc can be garnished for government debt like taxes, etc.

ONLY if you filed a joint return with your spouse for the tax year that gave rise to the debt to the IRS. If you filed a separate return for that year, you'd be in the clear and would be untouchable.

Yes they can, I'm on disability and owed money on my V.A hospital bill. They have been taking money out of my check since January and each time they keep $16.00 for service fees. You dont wont to get involved with them taking money out for payment, they put the screws to you.
