That is not exactly ho it happen. Herodias who was Herod's brother's wife was also Herod's lover. John had spoke out about this straight to Herod's face. This ticked off Herodias and John became her enemy. So then Herod is having this large party and Herodias' daughter dances for him and Herod offers her anything. So the daughter goes and asks her mother what she should ask for. Herodias then tells her that she wants John's head on a platter. That is what brought about John the Baptist's death.
