They do quite alot don't they? I would think seeing an angel would frighten anyone. So the first thing they seem to want to do is put the person at peace. Such is God's love for us.

It doesn't make sense, does it, when all the pictures of angels we are accustomed to seeing are cute cupids with bows and arrows, or beautiful girls with beautiful wings and flowers in their hair?
When people had an encounter with angels in the Bible, they did not see those pictures, but the real thing. And the real thing was so unworldly, they were completely scared. Therefore the angels had to comfort them first with "Be not afraid."
