I am not a huge person but the weight is a concern because i am older and clothes I once wore don't fit over my thighs, is there anything I can do to drop the weight fairly quickly, say 2-4 months, no fad diet of course but how much exercise and what foods help with losing pounds?

to get permanent results you have to make permanent changes in your lifestyle - diet and exercise.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

I hate to say this, but if you want to lose the weight in a healthy way, your timeframe is unrealistic. The safest best way to go about it is to follow a few simple steps. Drink A LOT of water. You will feel hungry because you are partially dehydrated, so drink water even when you aren't thirsty. It's a hard habit to get into, but buy a bunch of 16 oz bottles of water and make yourself drink 7 or 8 a day. Cut out almost every beverage you drink and replace with water. I personally allow 2 cups of coffee a day and have replaced all non alcoholic beverages with water or fruit juice (real juice). Be smart when shopping, if you can avoid snack stuff in the store, it won't be around the house all the time, so by avoiding temptation once, it doesn't become readily available when you get a craving. Go for a walk. You don't walk as much as you think you do and going for a couple of good walks a day will help more than you think. If you decide to go to a gym (which will help) don't over do it. It's very easy to push yourself to much and get hurt, or just get to sore and tired to keep up with it. I know this isn't what you were hoping for, but rapid weight loss is just unhealthy, and if you want to improve yourself, be patient and stick with it

Go on a slim-fast diet, it works really fast and well. My mom ate two slim-fast bars and a slim-fast shake with a dinner and lost 100 pounds in 5 months. In addition you can exersise but sometimes that makes you hungry and you just gain the 5 pounds you lost while running.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
