I recommend you go somewhere in Canada if you haven't before.
BTW, I used to take classes and teach at NYU and traveled a lot from NYC>
Try Montreal and Quebec City, and you could throw in Burlington VT, too if you don't know it it's acool town.
I flew to Burlington cheap, visited a friend, then took a train to Montreal, stayed a few nights, then train to Quebec. It was like being in Europe in Qeubec city.
Another suggestion: If you like cities try Mexico City!!!
I'm not kidding it's a really cool place.
You could got to guatemala and chill out in antigua and panajachel. The flight might be $500 but a room might set you back $7-$12.
You could also try Costa Rica or Vancouver.
And Chicago is nice, but American hotels eat up your budget. Check expedia or travelocity for deals and stay in the city, not in the burbs.
Or come see me in Fort Lauderdale.
(Just kidding)

A friend of mine went to Europe via a system called Airhitch.

You basically have to be ready to when they call you but it's very cheap.
She also used a book called Let's Go. This book shows you how to make it in a given country on little money.

Using these 2 things you can pretty much go anywhere you want for a week or even longer on 1000 bucks.

Your best bet is to talk to a travel consultant. Tell them what you have to spend, cut it back to $900. There are times that they know of travel packages that include everything but meals.
