Grace.
Before Jesus, there was only the Law that seperated every man from G-d. It condemned man as sinful.
Jesus is the bridge back to everlasting life, true happiness, and paradise. Although every man breaks the commandments, G-d provided a way to wash those sins away.
He loved you so much that he was willing to sacrifice his only son who was sinless that you may find life.

Read The Gospel of John, chapter 1 to answer your question, and also what made the difference, was not as much as Jesus was born (of course a saviour is born) but why He was born, He came here to show us the way, that He is the way, and His true mission was the death and resurection. Through His death and his wounds, we are saved (all those who believe in Him). And this difference is a spiritual thing, related to our everlasting soul/life!
He took for you, the punishments of your (everyone's) sins, so we may have everlasting life in Him, with God, in Heaven.

Well, it's like this:
You know how apples come into season in the fall, around September? And when they're in season, they must be the most delicious things on the face of the earth. I mean, they're crispy, tart, sweet, and juicy all rolled into one!
However--and here's the big however--you must eat them within a month or so, or they'll get all mealy and soft. They just aren't the same. All they're good for is cider.
I can hardly wait until September!

I'm just an Atheist so forgive me but I was "born". Doesn't Christianity look to the death and resurrection as the reason for Christ's existence?
I was born and raised in the Christian faith and my ordination is in a Christian church. But I did leave the back stabbers a long time ago so please tell me if something has changed.
Thank you.

We are different now...because when Christ ascended He sent the Holy Spirit back down to dwell with us again.
Between the expulsion from the Garden of Eden until the Advent of Christ, the Spirit of God left men. Now, if we choose, we can have the Holy Spirit within us. This only came with Jesus, the Word of God, assuming flesh and dwelling among us.

Jesus suffered and Died on the cross for our sins . In order for our sins to be forgiven so we have the pathway open to get to heaven. The only way to get to God is through Jesus Christ.
God Bless you on your journey.

For one thing it affects the way we write dates. Afterall it's 2007 AD (Annus Domini) Latin for year of the Lord, referring to Jesus.
I wonder if non-Christians realize that every time they write AD they're affirming Jesus as Lord?

Well, a lot of people are a lot more intolerant, bigoted, and holier-than-thou because Jesus was born, but I don't think that's the answer you were looking for...

We now have a Savior and when we confess our sins to Him , seek His forgiveness and repent we will be forgiven. God sent His Son so that we could have access to the Father in heaven, He is our mediator and our advocate. He is the giver of eternal life for all those that accept Him in their hearts as Lord and Savior.

We are no longer seperated from God the Father by our sins.
Just by asking for forgiveness through Jesus we are forgiven.
