I became a Christian because I know that God exists! Yes, I do have some that are agnostic and maybe one or two atheists! Not sure about the atheists as they are usually too drunk to even know their own thoughts! I am not saying that all atheists are drunkards! I am saying the ones who seem to be are drunkards...in my family anyway!
My dad was a minister and so, I was not allowed to be around the "bad" family members until I got older. It was from an adults prospective concerning their beliefs! So, that is why I am trying to answer this as honsetly as I can!
I know this for sure, this decision...to be atheist/Christian, is probably the single most important decision anyone will ever make!

Most of my family are, lets call them "moderately religious" (attending Church occasionaly). Mother is getting more and more religious as the years go by, and father never declared himself as an atheist, but he also never appeared to believe in God. I grew up in time of socialism, but, although religion wasn't to be found in schools, children could attend Sunday school, people went to church and got married there, and religious holidays were celebrated, although not very openly so.
I'm an atheist, but I can't pinpoint a moment in time when I became one. It was someting that happened naturally, over the years. Religion was never much discussed in my family, but I read the Bible as a kid because the stories in it interested me from a historical and cultural point of view. Nothing was imposed on me, but nothing was shown in negative way, either. As I gradually fell in love with science, I reached my own conclusions fairly early on - that I don't see any sense in the belief in a supreme being, and that I can't explain the world to myself through such beliefs.
Today, some of my best friends are very religious, church-going people, and there are total opposites, too. By being tolerant and respectful we can all live in peace.
Thanks for the interesting question :)

Yeah, I was raised Catholic, but my brother, who was also technically raised Christian, is currently Agnostic (unsure of his beliefs).
To be a Christian is just to be a follower of Jesus Christ and to accept him as your savior. Many people will tell you it requires baptism, but personally, I don't think it takes anything but true and sincere belief.
To be an Atheist is to be a person who has no religion. Some people misconcieve the word "atheist" as a person who doesn't believe in God. This is not necissarily true. It only means you do not practice any religion.

I was raised in the mormon church and I never really questioned it until I was 16. I remember that the thing that got me to question my beliefs was one Sunday when my Sunday school teacher told me that as a woman my only duty in life was to get married and have kids. I couldn't believe that that was all my life was worth, so I started questioning other aspects of the religion, and the more I thought and studied about it the more I started to doubt the existence of god at all.
"Dan L"- You are incorrect. The definition of an atheist is someone who does not believe in God. What you are describing is an agnostic

Stop believing in faerie tales and you are an atheist.
As far as I know I am the only atheist. I got a little of about everything Christian in my family. I have cousins that went to Bob Jones University for goodness sake.

most people choose a diffrent path from what they were brought up on. The logical ones, anyway. You become an atheist by simle not beleiving. you become a christian by accepting Christ, beleiving and following the path of goodness and righteousness. Doing good deeds and prayer.

mine is...my siblings are atheist, my cousins are atheist, i am atheist, whereas my parents and everyone else is not. my grandfather is a methodist minister. i was raised in a methodist and southern baptist background, i grew to dislike and disbelieve the teachings of both as i formed logic thought. i got sick of the cynicism, condemnation, and polarization of christians, so i explored another idea...one being isn't responsible for millions of years of evolution! it makes the most sense anyway. most religious people are inherently weak, therefore they use religion as a crutch (actually more like a shield.) it helps people cope with everyday life that they otherwise couldn't handle for themselves.
