He is there to do a job and not to screw off! Being in the military is a serious matter and the responsibilities should not be taken lightly. If the others wanted to party then they should have went to college and not joined the armed services. This is Not summer camp!

My husband is in the Army and was older than his fellow soldiers while he was in AIT. I would encourage your boyfriend not to give in. It is very important for him not to get in trouble. If he is caught contributing to getting alcohol for minors, that would result in an Article 15 and would follow him through his entire military career.

He should not care what the younger soldiers think of him and since he is older, he should be setting an example. The chances of him running into those guys again is likely, but by the time he does, they will have forgotten about it. He is there to learn his job and to serve our country, not to give in to younger soldiers who think AIT is an excuse to get drunk and party every weekend. It is the Army, not a popularity contest.

I would just recommend that you continue to encourage him to do the right thing. It is not worth the risk. Good luck and thank him for his service to our country.

He's obviously better off not doing it. I just retired from the army so I have a little experience with privates being privates. He shouldn't be to worried about what they think of him for not doing it, he's not in high school no more. Odds are that if one of those other privates gets caught, he'll sing and your boyfriend will take the fall. Tell him to look out for himself in that situation, set the example and continue to do the right thing, and he'll have a good start on his time in service.

The Army is just opposite of when I was in.

Never heard of a need for a "pass" in AIT.

The EM club was serving everyone 18+.

Smoking was encouraged. $1.25 a carton.

I went to AIT at Ft. Gordon. We could drink (beer) in Augusta too.

What has the world come to!!

Wait....I quit drinking in 1990, smoking in 1992. Tell him to let them suffer. That's why it is called "Tough Love"

If I were him, I wouldn't do anything in the barracks to get him in trouble. Tell him to hold his ground. If his room mates don't think the higher-ups don't know what's going on, they're crazy. Those guys are not stupid - they may even have hidden microphones to know who they can trust or not later on.

My suggestion is to STAY OUT of trouble, it will only go on your record and will hurt any promotion that may come his way.

no he should not lighten up. he might get harrased and ridiculed 4 it, biut he will move forward in his career if he's not dishonorably discharged.
