Well most people do it while their child is still a baby, like 6 months and up, that way they can get over the fear and shock of it. But your girl is 8 and that more than enough of an age to do it. As long as she understand that it will hurt, then go for it.
Make sure you monitor the piercing everyday. Make sure the post aren't to tight on the ear and there is no swelling or bleeding.
Also, whatever you do, don't take the ear rings out for at least a month or so, because that can cause the hole to close and possibly form into a keyloid.

Here's the thing... When you pierce a baby's ears, you make sure the hole stay clean and they she wears good quality earrings until long after the piercing has healed. My next door neighbor's daughter, who was 8 this year, got her ears pierced and she was constantly finding them infected. Once when she was over, she asked me to look at them and they were so infected that the backs were halfway covered with skin! (She had the backs too tight and kept messing with them with dirty fingers.) If youa re going to let an 8 year old get her ears pierced, you need to be willing to check them every night yourself, to make sure they are properly cleaned and that there si no infection. Especially if your daughter has long hair, you might not immediately notice if her piercings are infected. I have always maintained that 13 is a perfect age. It's a right of passage into being a teenager and a 13 year old is definietly old enough to follow and understand the importance of hygeine instructions for the purpose of keeping the ear piercings healthy.

When her mom decides it's ok. I gave in when my daughter was about 7. She has lots of friends at school from Latin America or India who get their ears pierced as babies. She told me later that she was surprised how much it hurt, but after all her begging, she wasn't about to chicken out after ear #1. She loved wearing earrings until this past year, when she stopped, and the holes closed up.

I got my ears pierced when I was ten. It didn't hurt at all. As long as your daughter is willing to take care of her ears and be responsible about not losing the earings, I say go for it. Worse that can happen is she doesn't take care of them and the holes close up. I see nothing wrong with getting them done. Go with your gut and follow your heart. Hope all goes well.

I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 14, because my parents and doctor said that it turns out better once ears are fully developed. So there wouldn't be any problems with the ear holes growing uneven as she ages.

Wait until she's 13, that's what I had to do. Then gradually I began to wear longer and longer earrings... I still have a limit. My neice, on the other hand, has had her ears pierced for two years (she's 7) and her poor mother has to change her earrings whenever the girl decides she wants 'em changed. She also wears longer earrings then I do!
But seeing as earrings are kind of "high-schoolish" wait until she's old enough to take care of them herself, then you won't have to worry about it. Besides, my neice looks like a tenth grader. (Frankly, that's quite unattractive, and the poor thing wears more makeup then I'm allowed to!) When I was seven, I looked like a seven-year-old.

I told each of my girls they were allowed to get their ears pieced when they were able to be responsible for the care of their piercings.
My youngest told me that she had no interest. Then one day, she wanted them. I asked her if she was ready - and she was.
I think my now 10 year old child pierced hers at 5 and my now 7 year old daughter pierced hers at 6.

I am 12 and I got mine pierced at age 9. Also, my little cousin was with me and she was 6 and neither me or her flinched or had a problem or anything like that. I don't see any problem with it except they need to be able to keep up with cleaning their ear lobes and stuff like that. Trust me, infections really hurt. But I think its just fine. Good luck!!
