You might want to consider an "add a pearl" necklace. She can wear it for special occasions as she grows up. If you send pearls to make special events in her life between now and the time she's grown she'll have a complete necklace to wear on her wedding day. You might also want to start a "pearl of wisdom" binder and send a page with some advice along with the pearl.

Is there a piece of jewelry you can pass down to her? Of course, she won't be able to wear it yet, but if you have a ring, locket, or earrings that she can have when she is older, wrap them up and write a lovely note that you are giving them to her the day she is born, and that you know she is going to grow up to be the most marvelous young lady.
When I was a girl my great aunts were very important to me -- they are all gone now and I so wish I had something to remember them by.

I think a US saving bond would be nice. And you could add to it every year for Christmas and birthdays. She will have a nice nest egg in time for college. She will appreciate it when she is older. And congratulation to you.

Make a GrAunty Quilt!!
I make little quilts for all my nieces and nephews........
Even if you have to buy one handmade, put your initials on it, or their name.
They sleep with it every night.
Your niece will greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
*my nephew took the quilt I made him in a pillow case to college with him!!!
**I then bought him a bedspread and added pockets to it, and bought him a handmade suede pillow case and put his initals on it, and mine on the inside!!!
