I am an oil painter and if I don't paint for a few days, paint can dry. My pallette is a piece of glass, edges taped. It sits on a pallette table. When I am finished painting for the day, I cover my paint with Saran wrap (real Saran, not generic), tuck the edges under the glass, and that's it. To get rid of dried paint, I use a scaper- sold in a hardware store for a couple of dollars. You put in a single edge razor and just scrape away.
I'm sure this would work with acrylic paint as well. You could use a paper pallette, but they are single use and therefore environmentally unfriendly.

One you are NOT using too much paint. You are using the wrong palette. For acrylics use the paper disposable palettes and tear off each time and throw away the paper when you are done. If you have more paint than you want to throw away, spay lightly with water and put in a disposable cake tray and air tight lid from the grocery store ($1.00 with out the cake)
The advantage of the waxed white paper is that you can see the colors you are mixing and even use a small one for warm colors and another for cool colors on large projects.
Check my web site in another month or sooner at www.gingercookstudios.com as my acrylic teaching video will be available for sale and I demonstrate the easy way to use paper palettes.

You can use disposable palette sheets. They are fairly easy to mix your paints on, and if you don't squeeze too much paint on it (more than you're going to use) you can throw it away after you're finished. I find this keeps the colors pure and less likely to become one big lumpy mess!

always keep your paints moist while painting, using only what you need at the time.

Rinse your palette off as soon as you are through with those colors.

Don't let it dry on there.

If you have clumps of paint on your palette, you are using too much paint.

That's what a pallet knife is for.

I prefer to use a ceramic plate and never have that problem.
