Males have a cheek spot of bright orange and females have a duller orange spot. Also females have lots of stripes on the bottoms of there tails and males dont. Hope this helps.
P.S also the first person that awnsered is wrong. Cockatiels ARE sexually dimorfic(this means you can tell it's gender by looking at it) Lovebirds are not though.

Yup, around 6 months of age they will molt and males will lose their pearls. Females of most colors will have lots of bars, or stripes on the underneath feathers of their tails. They'll also have bars or stripes under their wings. Males will have solid tail and wings.

Males lose pearling after the first molt, if it is still pearled afterwards, it is def a female. (in birds the female is XY, and the pearl gene is carried on the Y chromosome.)

I dont think you can with teils. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you cant. I have a lovebird and he had to be DNA sexed. I think they just clipped a toenail and sent it to a lab that read the DNA. They did it before I bought him so I dont know how much/ how complicated it is. As far as I know some birds, yes you can tell by some color of something on them. But teils I'm almost 100% you cant tell just by looking at it. Sorry!
