I use mothballs to keep pesky critters away. We've tried all the devices but some things irritated my pets.

Put down a bucket. Fill it with nuts, grains, seed or anything that might appeal to them. Put a ramp or stack books up to the edge of the bucket so that the mice can climb into it. But the thing is, they wont be able to come out. Than take the bucket and dump it somewhere far away from your birds like a nature like hiking park with trails and with a outdoor feel to it. Any mouse would be happy there.

You can find small mouse traps that catch them but do not harm them. I bought a couple from a hardware store, to catch and relocate mice.
Make sure it is not nesting time, because if there are babies, they will starve without their mother. You can relocate them in an empty field or camping areas. They like to be around logs that are dead or decaying,
I had several in my yard. They were so cute, but my husband was afraid they would give me some disease and so they needed to go.(I get sick a lot and I didn't want them to get blamed for it). If you live near Colorado Springs, I will loan mine to you. If not, and you can't find them at your hardware store, e-mail me and I will send you mine, but please send them back when they have done the job.

There are live mouse traps in hardware stores. They have openings too small to trap anything other a small rodent.
That will keep your birds safe also. But becareful releasing mice as some carry a virus that causes flu like symptoms.

There are of course many humane traps on the market.
Though personally ,despite a strong compassion for animals,i wouldnt lose sleep about the slaughter of a few mice ,as long as they expire quickly. The people who manufacture the humane traps ,are very unlikely to use them in their own manufacturing base. Therefore,it could be said that buying them encourages rodent extermination elswhere.

try putting used cat litter (litter in which cat has peed on) all around the aviary. The smell of a cat should be enough to keep them out of there.

They make humane traps for mice...might sell them at a feed store. Just release them far away or they'll come back.

The only way you can get rid of them is to ensure you keep all the food for your birds in an airtight container...traps and poison are obviously out of the question,..just tighten up the food spillage and that should do it.

build a small door at the bottom, then put some snake bait on the other side of the door, then close the door when they are eating it.
This may take some time because you will have to be super sneaky, and it may need to be dark outside.
