Does running too much and eating a low calorie diet make you lose more muscle than fat?? Because I used to be so athletic and strong, but ever since I started to watch what I eat, I lost weight, but I can hardly jump as high as I used to or sprint as fast as I used to! I mean I slower than practically everyone on my track team now! help...and how fast can I get the muscle back!

your question is a little vague as you did not specify what too much running is or what low calorie means to you.

one thing is for sure and that's is that long distance running (<30 miles a week) decreases test levels and increases cortisol levels post workout and up to 12+ hours later. this is surely not optimum for increasing muscle mass.

if you truly enjoy running then I would cut down the miles if you do indeed run a lot and run shorter distances at a faster pace.

you mentioned you have lost some jumping ability. this is because running distances will primarily benefit the slow twitch muscles while the fast twitch muscles do not receive adequate stimulation

No sure answer here. If you are running a lot and your low calorie diet doesn't include the right elements, then yes your body will mestasticize muscle. Before you run, carb load if possible the night before. Also, try to eat approximately one gram of protein per pound of body weight, split each day.

I think you have just trained different muscles than you used to use. Perhaps try some weight lifting to strengthen those you aren't using as much.
