I am going on holiday to Brugge this year and was wondering if anyone could point us to the direction of some supermarkets in the area... also, will the locals be more likely to speak dutch or french?
we are on the Bilkske road if that helps :)

In Brugge we speak Flemish (or Dutch if you like). But, to accommodate the visitors, the people (especially the shop owners) do speak a lot of other languages... and English is well known.
The "Langestraat" and "Hoogstraat" (one goes over into the other) is the big shopping street... there are some small supermarkets but they are probably more expensive as they are situated in the shopping street...
I'd advise you to by your bread from a local bakery (and not from the supermarket) but try to find one off the big shopping street...
Ask your Flemish neighbors...they will tell you were it's best to shop...
Have a good stay in Brugge!
PS Brugge is very near to the Belgian sea... always a good day trip... take the bus at "het zand" ...

I visited Brugge once. There is an amazing fountain in the centre, where you will find lots of lovely shops. This is especially true if you like Bengium Chocolatte!!! There is a market nearby on some days and it's an amazing atmosphere. I found that Dutch came in more useful than French, but English was also quite widely spoke, so you will find it OK to get by. Have fun!

There's a grocery store called
"Delhaize Proxy" at Noordzand Str. 4, near the Markt.
You can also go to the Vismarkt (Fish Market) near the
Burg, south over the canal bridge. See if they have some pickled herring or steamed mussels.
Flemish/Dutch is more common in Brugge, but since it's all tourism in the summer, many will be multilingual.

Wow I spent a week in Brugge and made plans for which museums I wanted to visit but never made a shopping plan of action. If you just go to the main square it will be very obvious where the shopping is. You are really overplanning this..

Not sure about supermarkets, but I can confirm that Bruges is a great place - the locals speak whatever you want them to speak, including excellent English., so if you don't find what you want to know before you go.you'll have no trouble getting info when you get there.

All speak English and you don't need Supermarkets.Simply because unlike France you can buy everything just as cheap locally.
