It completely depends on your definition of "large" and how many energy saving appliances you use. Do you use gas or electricity? Solar? Underground heat pumps? There are tons of factors here.

I would guess about 800 to 1000 KW hours/month just to get things started.

This would include a home heated with natural gas, forced air, and central air conditioning, in the state of Colorado.

Here are some approximate demands for homes with central air, gas heat, gas hot water. These are considered the peak loads during the hottest days in the middle of summer.

3000 ft² = 7.0 kW
4000 ft² = 8.0 kW
5000 ft² = 9.5 kW
6000 ft² = 11.0 kW
