I got mine done last year and overall I'd say it didn't hurt. It'll make you a little nervous just with the lead up to it when they put your skin in the clamp and are getting ready, but just don't watch anything they're doing and it'll be done before you know it ;).

It felt like a quick hard pinch when he put the needle through, and within two or three seconds the ring was in. I was like "You're done already???" haha Seriously, nothing to worry about.

Just go to a reputable and sterile place with friendly piercers, and FOLLOW their cleaning guidelines.

*Don't play with your jewelry or do anything too physical while it's healing.
*Clean it for about 5 minutes twice a day with water and sea salt (use a shot glass or something similar to fill the mixture with and then hold it over your belly button against your skin.. you can do it in the shower easily.)
*Don't even attempt to change your jewelry before six to eight months or you may get an infection/not be able to put the new jewelry in because the hole hasn't healed yet.
*Be careful when putting on your clothes not to snag the ring on it.. ow!
*You're not supposed to go swimming until it's fully healed, but it being summer you probably will want to.. What I did was had to skip the bikini, went out and bought a tankini or whatever and bought some big square bandaids big enough to fit over the entire area so no water could get in.

I honestly wasn't even *that* careful and didn't clean it as much as I was supposed to and I had absolutely no problems, but the guidelines are just to be 100% sure you won't get an infection... which let me tell you, I have heard they SUCK and should be avoided at all costs.

So good luck, having a navel piercing is awesome, I've never had any complaints and love having it!!!

It hurts. Try just pinching your belly button. Now imagine sticking a needle in it!

According to my neice, it hurt like hell. She was tender for weeks, though she did say she'd do it again. Maybe...
