just wanted to know how many people are in a troop?

it is individuals. not 1 troop = 10 troops
20,000 troops in mexico means 20,00 individuals. YOu mean platoons, or some other name liek brigs and batallions.

A troop is the same sise as a company, which consists of at least 4 platoons, which comes to around 160-240 men. Calvary is the only unit that calls it a troop.
