depending on your supplement budget both would be optimum if increasing muscle mass is the primary focus.
whey protein or BCAA's when taken before high intensity exercise helps to reduce the catabolic effects of exercise. after training it is used to start the recovery process by stimulating insulin and muscle protein synthesis. for optimum utilization mix your whey protein with water post workout. if increasing muscle mass is the primary goal then you also want to add carbs to your shake. it doesn't matter if they are high or low GI. both dextrose and maltodextrin are good to use in the post workout shake. the ratio should be close to 1:3 to 1:4 protein to carbs. something like 20 grams of whey and 60-80 grams of carbohydrates is optimum to spike insulin (which decreases serum cortisol levels). you should consume a balanced meal about 1-1.5 hours after the shake to get the body back into an anabolic state

YES!!! I think it's actually better to drink whey protein after a workout (that's what my ex who was a personal trainer did), but I'm sure it'd be just as good for you right before your workout.

Actually you should drink the protein after your workout. Before a workout you should consume some carbs to help
you endure your workout and finish off with the protein shake
to keep your metabolism going longer. Good luck!

Not before due to the fact that your body will need blood supply to digest the protein, better to use oxygen and blood supply for workout than to digest.

I do both. The goal is to have a protein source at every meal if the goal is increasing or preserving lean muscle mass.

its better to dink whey protein.I personally didnt tried any whey protein.But one of my buddies tried it and he says its pretty good.Helps you gain weight fast.
