penut is a different nut than cashew. Penuts have a different chemical composition. When you ingest it your body thinks that a penut is a really bad thing because there are premade antibodies to them and creates a response to destroy them. As it is destroying the penuts it produces many other chemicals including bradykin which stimulates the swelling and the puffy eyes and lips. Cashews do not produce this antibody response therefore no allergy. There are people though that are allergic to all nuts. It just depends on a persons individual immune response.

Nuts belong to different food families. The peanut is actually a legume and cashew are from the cashew family. The other difference is that peanut is a ground nut whereas cashew is a tree nut.

So much wrong information. Peanut allergies are due to the meat of the nut. In fact, although I am allergic to peanuts I am not allergic to peanut oil (I have tested this) so long as the oil doesn't have any part of the nut meat in it.

Peanuts are a nut that grows on the ground. All other nuts (that I know of) are from bushes or trees.
Therefor- the mold is a contaminate and it effects many more people than other nuts.
