LOS ANGELES - All of her life, Zoila Meyer believed she was an American. She even won election to the City Council of Adelanto.

But now she is facing a threat of deportation for illegally voting, because she never became a citizen after being brought to this country from Cuba when she was 1 year old.

"To be honest with you, I'm scared. How can they just pluck me out of my family, my kids?" the 40-year-old mother of four said in a telephone interview Friday.

"If they can do this to me, they can do it to anybody," she said.

I think being here 39 years since the age of 1 and being deported is how sick American politics is! How would she even suspect if she had been here all fer life? This is who we use as examples?

Wouldn't she have been brought under the umbrella of the last time we let immigrants stay? Probably not. She didn't know she was illegal and probably never applied!

Why don't they go after the manufacturers, the real criminals? We all know why, don't we?

That's the whole point. We can do it to anybody who is not a citizen. Her mistake not to look into her own case. If she came from Cuba, she should have had the sense to realize that she was not an American citizen. My sympathy for any illegal is now shot. No amnsety for illegals.

Well 1. shes publicized ... people can find infromation about her from any one sooo shes an easy person to pick out.
2. other poeple do walk aroun d /w a sign of their head saying im an illegal alien sooo many people don't get caught.
personally i think it's kinda of unfair because she was BROUGHT here .. at the age of 1 she can't control where she travels to or picks her destiny. Shell figure it out some how i jus hope it turns out ok

She or someone in her family or in her employment history lied somewhere.

This is more reason to enforce the laws on the books where immigration is concerned.

The law is there for everyone, including 1 year olds. It sucks to be her, but if an exception is made for her, than lines will form 'round the country with people wailing "I didn't know!"

If she didn't know she wasn't a citizen, she should be fine. After all, she could have become one at any time, as an adult. She does have a green card.

Well, her failure to correct her legal status is not anyone's fault but her own, regardless of the local official's inability to recognize her illegal status for her.

Just another reason why we need to get a handle on illegal immigration.

I say leave her alone, the feds could take years to deport the illegal alien criminals that they refuse to deport.
