My mother went on a cruise from Sydney north in 2000, but I think it was a special thing for the Olympics. I am not aware of any regular services.
There is a tour company that does trips from Cairns to Darwin to Broome and back every year, but that is north of Cairns.

There are no cruise vessels that ply that route, which is a shame, I'm sure it would be economically viable. Some cruise liners travel from Sydney to Singapore or the Pacific Islands via Brisbane and or Cairns, but they are large passenger ships and don't stop any where in between and also, due to their deep hulls, must sail about 30 k's of shore so as to avoid the reefs which means you don't get to see much of the coastline.
