When they're done giving you a tattoo, do they have to clean the tattoo? As in, if they don't, will it not work?

but like, lets say it weren't required by law, would they still have to do it?

I'm assuming you mean do they have to clean the tattoo gun. Yes, the small resevoir that holds the ink also sucks up blood and skin cells. If you dont clean it, the biohazardous goo would clog the gun and probably start its own species. Then the next person to get a tattoo from that gun would add more goo to the growing species and take some of that species away with them. Then we'd have clogged tattoo guns and random biohazardous species running rampant.....The effects would be catastrophic.

I don't give a rat's a** whether or not it will work...that is not the important aspect of this. Everything has to be cleaned or disposed of properly, including sterilization of anything that potentially comes in contact with bloodborne pathogens - even when the laws don't dictate - anyone who tattoos is bound by common sense ethics - if you give someone hepatitis C it could kill them.

You want to think about that the rest of your life? Compounding that, do you want your family to have to deal with the financial loss when they sue your a** off for negligence? It has happened, don't think it won't happen to you.

If you are not the artist and know someone who is tattooing without using proper protocols to prevent cross-contamination, turn them in to the health department. Seriously. Back alley scratchers like that give MY industry a bad name.

Edit notes:.....pretty clear to me the topic of discussion was the "gun"

It's just common sense to wipe the tat while tatting and when it's finished, the area should be completely clean and a moisturizer applied with a gauze placed over it.
If what you say happened and you get any kind of infection,
you may report that person to the authorities........police, Health Dept....and if he/she has a shop, Better Business,
plus a personal law suit to pay for your hospital and Dr. bills.

ps....darksuns.......he was talking about the tat, that was very
obvious.........also, it is a machine, not a gun.

They have to clean it off because of the blood and ink all over the place, presumably so it doesnt stain your skin while the tattoo is healing
