system process by user name SYSTEM in task manager takes more than 90% CPU?

all other things thereby work at a very slow rate. my pc seems to be hung up at times coz 90% CPU is used by 'system' named process then. First my pc works so slow coz of this and then I am afraid the processor will be harmed as most of the time CPU utilization is 100%. can someone pls tell me the reason for this and the solution ???

Please review my personal checklist. You may have a simple case of RAM overload.

1. Set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.
2. Review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.
3. From Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history. (You can also set days to store history to 0.)

4. Run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take).
5. Periodically, click Start, Programs, Run — they type ipconfig renew
(that’s ipconfig space renew).

These things should increase speed and free up memory as much as possible.

sounds like a virus to me ... go to pcpitstop.com and run there full test .. it should tell you if theres anything bad on there or whats going on
