What's so great about NATURE. It probably pre-dates Aristotle to worship at the shrine of Nature, but "in a state of nature" we are basically brutal apes without shelter, manners, indoor plumbing, or food production. Mother Nature is a "harsh Mistress." What's so great about nature?

Very good point.

Most of the people that I have met that talk glowingly about nature have never actually lived in a natural environment.

A number of years ago I decided to see what it is like to "live off the grid" for a while.

For those who are not familiar with the term"off the grid" that is a tern for a rural property that is so remote that you do not have utility services. You also do not have a paved road for miles.

My water came from a well, and I did all of my heating with wood. It was a rather primitive existence. It did not take me very long to conclude that "living off the grid" leaves a lot to be desired.

Most of the people who talk to me about nature or other similar topics have no concept of what it is like to live without modern conveniences.

They cannot do it.

They merely have a fantasy about what it would be like.

Their view of nature is just that, nothing but a fantasy.

It is wise to pay attention to Mother Nature. Every time earthlings try to mold M.N. to our needs we end up on the short end of the stick.

Take New Orleans for example, we built levies to protect the people that started living on the Mississippi Delta because it was cheap land. It was cheap land because it should not have people living on it. The silt that makes up the delta is deposited when the river floods the delta. Once the fine silt has settled it is below sea level. As we discovered, all of the levies in the world will not hold back a huge storm like Katrina. Mother Nature will have her way regardless of mankind's efforts. That is what is so great about nature. She cannot be denied.

A friend sent me a clip on a field of engineering called "biomimicry". I knew of it, I do it, I didn't know it had a name. Perhaps you should watch this YouTube clip to help you understand that what engineering does nature does better.

And you're still a brutish ape with no manners, so what difference did technology make? ;-)
