So, I'm getting the shot tomorrow for a filling. And no, I can't have laughing gas. My dad said they don't offer it, shoot. Never the less, please calm me down by answering a few questions. It would make my day.

1. On a scale one to 10, 10 being the worse, what would you give the shot? -
2. Would it feel like getting your ears pierced? -
3. How many seconds does the shot go in for? -

And anything else. Thank you guys.

How bad is your cavity? If it's really shallow, maybe you can try going without the shot? I have done that before, not because it hurts, I don't think it hurts at all (getting your ears pierced is 100 times over, hurts more) but because i hate feeling like my mouth is dumb, numb, and lame for hours. The shot goes in really quick, just like a regular shot. And then it comes out, no biggy. Just have your dad come and squeeze his hand. I use to ice skate so when I am confronted with something i fear will hurt i focus my thoughts someplace else and say the counts of the ice dancing waltz (well i guess it works for regular waltz) over and over again. 123 456 it really works (I have even had a tooth pulled - not loose, no shot - with this technique) Good luck, don't be afraid. No sweat!

I am and have always been the biggest chicken out there. But, I can handle getting a Novocaine shot at the dentist. I am not saying that my blood pressure doesn't go sky-high for a while, but after it is over with, I just take deep breaths and calm down. It is not anywhere as bad as getting your ear's pierced. The initial poke and waiting for the initial poke is the worst. Then the Novocaine kicks in before the shot is even over with and you don't feel anything. The assistant will also put a paste on your gum where the site of the shot will be. This will numb the gum, so the shot is as painless as possible. After wards, just a few seconds, you will be good and numb and the doctor can do what he wants and you won't feel a thing.

The shot sucks, but its the two hours after it that really suck... Ha Ha you'll see what I mean. Sorry about laughing, that's rude. They can numb the area the shot will go into with some kind of numbing stuff on a q tip. There's a lot of pressure. It's not as bad as beaking your arm, but its worse than getting your ears peirced. You can handle it. It does seem to last for 3 - 5 seconds and feels weird and slightly painful, he moves the needle around inside your cheek.

Most dentists use a gel to numb the place where they give the shot first. And it depends where they give the shot.

It does not feel like getting your ears pierced.

It depends where it is how long.

Sorry to be so general but ASK these questions tomorrow before you get the shot.

with a good dentist, the pain is like a slight pin prick, not a bad shot. It only lasts a second or two before it starts going numb. Back in the day, a trip to the dentist was a real trial. Nowadays, I don't mind going at all.
Relax, it's ok to be a little tense, that's natural, but don't build it up to be worse than it really is.

Ill say a 5.
Its nothing like getting your ears pierced. You can barely feel it
It takes maybe 5 seconds.

My advice: Keep your eyes closed so you dont see the needle! otherwise your just gonna freak yourself out!

Lizzie,

Have your dentist spray your gum with Lidocaine to numb it before getting the shot.

This way, you will feel the pressure of the needle, but not the pain.

You will spend wasted time worring about it. It is worse worring about it, then the injection actully is.
