I have burried my beloved dogs in my yard, and planted an ornamental bush over their graves. Grave must dug at *least* 3 times as thick as the pet.

I don't know if it's legal or not, but having your family pet in your own yard is the nicest thing for both your family and your pet. When I was a kid and our guinea pig died, my father buried him in the backyard and even put a little wooden cross on his grave. I think your family will be happy knowing Liam is still nearby.

Yes, it's ok. The dog was a family member who o doubt gave you all many good years of service and protection. Even if you someday move, the dog will still have been buried near you and at the time it would make you feel better. You don't even need to tell any other owner of the house.

My family has buried all of our pets in the yard, dogs, cats, hamsters, goldfish. We have a few acres of land, and a little area where we've buried the pets. Our own pet cemetery if you will. It's nice to go to that area of the yard and visit them or plant flowers. In a way they are never too far away. I hope this helps, and Liam will be in my prayers.

First of all I am sorry the time is coming near for you to consider this. Some cities has an ordinance, but I didn't even call my city authorities to ask them. This is my property & I have buried two of my dogs, one of my mom's & one of my daughter's in my backyard. The graves are 3x4ft. & the dogs are in the plastic containers with the lids duct taped closed. As a matter of fact I just had to bury my girl Desire on June 7. If I were you, I'd just do it!!!

My dad does this but he lives on a farm out in the country.
Many cities and towns have local ordinances against it however. Gets into the groundwater and then into the water supply you know...
Also you would have to dig really deep because otherwise other animals might dig him up and that would be very upsetting.
Personally I would have him cremated and then perhaps bury the ashes and place a marker of some sort, maybe under his favorite tree?...
Contact your local animal control; they should know.

Of course it's alright. I have buried many a pet in my yard over the years. I would check with local city ordinances regarding the comment from the Police Officer. I find it hard to believe that it's against the law to bury your own pet in your own yard. Something to check into I guess.

Absolutely you can. Our pug(who lived to be 13) and our basset hound(who lived to be 12) are buried side by side in the back yard. Our current dog who is a beagle/shepherd mix is 2 years old. When he passes, he will be buried right next to them. I could not, in good conscience, leave it up to our vet to dispose of my beloved pets bodys. It was the right thing for us to provide a final resting place for two creatures that were a cherised part of our family.

That's up to you.

Personally, I would never do it solely because I'd find it harder to let go of him; but that's just me. If you like the feeling of having your companion close to you for the remainder of your life/stay at that house, then by all means, do it.

Different people deal with death in different ways. If you think you'll be able to deal with things easier this way, then go ahead. This is a decision you and your family should make together.

There are other options: when he goes, you can bury him at a pet cemetery and visit him or you can cremate him and save his ashes.

Good luck to you and your family, I'm sure he's lived a happy life.

Check the laws for where you live. It's legal where I live because I own acreage and live outside town limits. However, it is illegal in town. It varies greatly by area. Often your local animal control will be able to tell you if it's legal where you live. Another option is cremation. Oftentimes the local animal shelter offers lowcost cremation. I had one of my dogs cremated. It was a lot easier. No digging, no worry about something else digging him up. Oftentimes too, the local shelter uses the money from cremation to help pay for food for shelter animals.
