Okay, so I work at my Softball field's snack stand, and i get paid a good amount of money. During my last birthday, i got a heck of a lot of money as well. My parents expect me to be a multi-millionaire by now, but the only problem is that i've spent a lot of my money on me and my friends. last year i had this same problem, and my dad totally flipped out on me. i don't want that to happen again. Does anyone know what i should to to break the news to my parents without them killing me?!

First of all, they won't "kill you". Parents get upset, but they always get over it. They love you and only want what's best for you. I doubt that they are as upset as you think. Just disappointed.

I guarantee that if you sit them down and have a mature, straight-forward conversation with them, they will be less likely to "flip out". They'll probably still be upset/disappointed, but they'll appreciate the fact that you told them directly instead of them just finding out about.

If you have this much trouble handling your money, you may want to also talk to them about helping you learn to appropriately manage your money. Try putting half your paycheck into a savings account IMMEDIATELY, and using the other half for your entertainment. Perhaps you'll learn to make your money stretch a little further when you know you only have a limited amount. Then you can use the money you are saving for things you need instead of want.

By the way, don't spend all your money on friends. Treating them to lunch occasionally, birthday presents, friendship cards.... that's about it. If you buy your friends lots of things, they will become dependent on you and start EXPECTING you to pay. Not deliberately of course, but just out of habit. Good luck!

Well, hopefully they won't kill you. Tell them that you are having a hard time saving money and that maybe they could help you by holding on to it or put it into some type of investment like CD's where you you'd get penalized for taking the money out before the certificate matures. Remember that you don't have to spend a lot of money on your friends. Small gestures are just as meaningful and easy to do. They set a good trend.

You know frankly if your parents didn't learn anything about you from last year, then they get what they deserve. Next time, get a savings account and before you spend a dime put half of your money in there. And stop spending money on your freeloading friends, they need to get jobs.

BE HONEST WITH THEM. tell them you made a mistake and you are sorry and you have learned a lesson from it. i know your parents are just trying to make you a responsible kid but sometimes you do your own thing and you learn a very important lesson.
